One of our most popular Christmas tours, we return to the Cotswolds and the excellent, family run, 4 star Blunsdon House Hotel, set in its own extensive grounds with stunning views over the beautiful Cotswolds. The hotel prides itself on a warm, friendly atmosphere where high standards come as standard.
This super 4 star hotel began life as a hunting lodge at the beginning of the 19th century, since then it has undergone many changes to become the welcoming accommodation we find today. Each of the tastefully furnished en suite bedrooms have hairdryer, trouser press, TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities and served by a lift. Three bars, each individually named after a family member and with their own character ensure lots of comfortable seating, with extensive leisure facilities.
Saturday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the leisurely drive to the Cotswolds. We travel by way of Chipping Norton and pretty Burford where we make a comfort stop then continue on to reach our hotel, the Blunsdon House early afternoon where welcoming tea and coffee await. Tonight we will meet again for dinner before entertainment brings our evening to a close.
Sunday – Christmas Eve A full English breakfast sets us up for the day before we join the coach for a relaxing gentle drive around the southern Cotswolds. We visit Roman Cirencester then along the Golden Valley to Stroud. Climbing over Minchinhampton Common with its many legends we continue to Avening before returning to the hotel in time for an included lunch. This evening the hotel’s managers host a welcome drinks reception with a glass of bubbly followed by dinner. This evening there will be midnight communion held at St Leonard’s Church, afterwards there will be coffee available on return to the hotel.
Monday – Christmas Day Merry Christmas everybody! This morning we can guarantee a White Christmas as, after a hearty breakfast, we are visited by a special guest arriving in a white Rolls Royce bearing gifts for all! Then time to relax and unwrap presents, or perhaps take a stroll around the beautiful grounds before a Christmas lunch is served preceded by a complimentary drink. After lunch time to relax, perhaps enjoy the Queen’s Speech before tea and coffee are served. A later dinner takes the form of a superb hot and cold buffet followed by musical entertainment in the bar to bring our Christmas Day to a close.
Tuesday – Boxing Day A later start to the day with a brunch in Christopher’s restaurant before setting off for Swindon for a pantomime performance of Cinderella. Back at the Blunsdon House tea and biscuits are served then another excellent dinner is followed by a quiz and fun and games then dancing to Luke Skywalker’s disco.
Wednesday Another hearty breakfast before we bid a fond farewell to our hosts and depart for home. We spend time in nearby Swindon at the beautifully restored Grade II railway building in the heart of the former Swindon railway works which today houses a massive modern shopping outlet offering huge discounts, lots of cafes and a wonderful steam Museum of the Great Western Railway, where visitors of all ages get to climb aboard famous locomotives, have a go at changing the signals, and be an engine driver. Mid afternoon we return to our home area and waiting taxis at the end of a memorable Christmas holiday.
