Tradition and culture are highly respected in the Tyrol with many festivals a highlight of the local villages each year. None more so than the end of grazing season festivals when the farmers bring the cattle down from the high pastures and hold a colourful parade. Our tour includes the large event at Hopfgarten and another annual event, the Church and music festival in Kramsach, all you have to do is join in the fun and festivities. Our base is the village of Kirchberg and the welcoming Hotel Zentral where we have included a packed lunch each day and an ‘All Inclusive’ drinks package each day until 8.30pm. Early booking is advised for this sell out tour!
The family run 4 star Zentral is located in the centre of Kirchberg as its name suggests; built in the traditional chalet style the hotel is renowned for its warm welcome and comfort. Each of the en-suite bedrooms is equipped with a telephone, satellite TV, a safety-box and a hair dryer. Most of the rooms have a balcony and many have views of the surrounding mountains. Other facilities at the hotel include a sun terrace, restaurant, bar, games room and a comprehensive wellness area. The hotel is served by two lifts.
Wednesday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the mid-morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. On through Belgium to Germany and our overnight hotel.
Thursday A fine buffet breakfast before departing for Austria. Travelling through Germany we cross the Rhine at Karlsruhe and pass Stuttgart and Munich. Ahead we see the Alps and after crossing the border near the Wild Kaiser Mountains we reach Kirchberg and our holiday hotel at teatime.
Friday A restful day in our resort, make use of the hotels excellent leisure facilities and partake of the inclusive drinks arrangements. Take a ride on the nearby cable car.
Saturday After a fine buffet breakfast we drive along the valley to the delightful village of Hopfgarten for one of the largest and most impressive Almabtrieb festivals in the region: A colourful programme with several music groups, farmers market, old world craftsmanship and delicacies are set up throughout the town. Hundreds of beautifully adorned cows walk through the village on their way down from the alpine pastures to their farms. Under bad weather conditions the programme may be modified.
SundayWe drive to the village of Kramsach and the ‘Museum of Tyrolean Farming’ for the Church Day and music festival. In this open air museum we are able to visit 14 typical Tyrolean farmhouses and experience a parade of bands dressed in local costume, presentations of crafts and the chance to taste various typical local specialities.
Monday The scenic highlight of our tour, as we take the spectacular Grossglockner road. This magnificently engineered highway runs from nearby Bruck to Heiligenblut and offers us views over mountain peaks and glaciers, a truly memorable journey, climbing to a height of over 8,000 feet we reach the base of Austria’s highest mountain – the Grossglockner at 12,460ft, here the awesome Pasterze glacier spreads out before us.
Tuesday After breakfast we leave for the year round resort of Kitzbuhl, nestling between the Kitzbuhler Horn and the Hahnenkamm. With a wealth of cafes and shops, it’s the perfect place for those last minute souvenir purchases. We return to the hotel for an included lunch and relaxing afternoon.
WednesdayWe leave Kirchberg for our home ward journey. Through Bavaria to make a stop in the fairytale town of Rothenburg, built on the banks of the River Tauber. Then by way of wine producing city of Wurzburg to reach our overnight hotel in the Rhineland.
Thursday After a fine buffet breakfast we depart for Brussels then Calais for the mid-afternoon shuttle to Folkestone. We return to our home area and waiting taxis arriving early evening.
