Another great little break which has received consistently fabulous reviews year on
year, we are happy to offer another chance to see the beautiful Dutch Bulbfields
from a totally different perspective, a holiday that combines the relaxing and
peaceful style of a river cruise along the lovely waterways of Holland, with a visit to
the wonderfully vibrant Keukenhof Gardens and the bustling city of Amsterdam.
Our tour is based aboard the River Cruiser, the MS Esmeralda.
Sailings can be altered by the discretion of the Esmeralda’s management and will be confirmed by the ship’s Captain.
The Esmeralda is a modern, comfortable vessel. Each of the passenger cabins are situated on the main and upper passenger decks, attractively decorated and equipped with telephone, colour TV, mini safe, en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and washstand. Also on the upper deck are the reception and an attractive Old- Dutch lounge. The tastefully decorated restaurant is situated on the main deck. Both of these decks can be reached by a passenger lift and a chair lift goes up to the sun-deck. The entire boat is air conditioned.
Friday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. Arriving in Calais we travel through Belgium and into Holland to arrive in Amsterdam late afternoon where we join our River Cruiser, the MS Esmeralda and settle into our cabins. Dinner will be served as we cruise the short distance to Zaandam.
Saturday Breakfast on board before our first excursion. We board the coach and head for the beautifully preserved Dutch village of Zaanse Schans with its characteristic wooden houses, museums and many windmills! We spend time here before returning to the MS Esmeralda for lunch. This afternoon we set sail for Amsterdam, on arrival we spend the remainder of the day at leisure exploring the wonderful city of Amsterdam.
Sunday After breakfast we join the coach for a visit to the beautiful gardens at Keukenhof. After plenty of time to marvel at the wonderful displays of brightly coloured flowers we journey back to Amsterdam to re-join the Esmeralda and take lunch on board. We set sail meandering along the river to the bustling port of Hoorn. Hoorn is best known as the birthplace of the explorer Willem Schouten (who named the famous Cape Horn after his home town). Why not explore the splendid 17th century merchant houses and warehouses that line the waterfront along with the huge variety of ships, boats and yachts in the harbour.
Monday Early this morning we set sail for Alkmaar, arriving early evening in time for our Captain’s farewell dinner.
Tuesday A final breakfast on our cruiser before we disembark and retrace the steps of our outward journey to Calais for the mid-afternoon the shuttle train to Folkestone. We arrive back in our home area early evening after a memorable Dutch waterways cruise.
