After much success last year, we are pleased to return to Yorkshire covering a splendid variety of magnificent scenery and contrasting countryside, with quaint Yorkshire towns and villages, rugged moorlands and stunning coastlines. We also feature a railway ride as well as much more.
This stunning 4 star hotel dates back to the 19th century and was formerly a baronial home. It is an elegant establishment offering a pleasing combination of the original features and modern facilities. All bedrooms are richly furnished and there is a choice of welcoming lounges. The bedrooms are all en-suite with WiFi and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel has a lift.
MondayWe leave our home areas to join the Club Class coach for the drive north arriving at Gisborough Hall Hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday After breakfast we begin our day with a drive through Bilsdale, which is also known as ‘Little Switzerland’. We now come to the delightful town of Helmsley. Here we take a break for lunch before continuing past Ampleforth and Byland Abbey to Kilburn, passing the famous White Horse. This village is home of Mousey Thompson, the famous woodworker renowned for his little mouse carving and adorning hand carved oak furniture throughout the land. Whilst we are here we visit the Mousey Thompson Visitor Centre with its gift shop and tearoom. After time to enjoy the shop, we join the coach and return to the hotel with time before dinner.
Wednesday This morning we begin with a drive across the moors to the village of Danby where we visit the Danby Moors Centre. While we are here we enjoy a morning tea or coffee with scones. Later we leave Danby and head up on to the moors and Blakey Ridge, passing the well known Lion Inn on the way. The views are spectacular all around as we descend into the lovely village of Hutton-le-Hole. After our visit we continue on to Pickering to join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for an 18 mile steam train journey across the moors to Grosmont, calling at Goathland, famous for TV’s Heartbeat, on the way. Upon arrival in Grosmont we have time to look around and perhaps visit the railway restoration shops or enjoy a drink in the café before making our way back to the hotel for dinner.
Thursday After breakfast we head for the seaside. Our first visit is to Saltburn-by-the- Sea, a traditional seaside resort where we take the unique Cliff Lift to the shore to enjoy a stroll along the historic pier. After a short stop we join the coach for a picturesque drive along the coastal region, taking us to Loftus, Staithes and Sandsend as we make our way to Whitby. We have time to wander the little alleyways and narrow streets and perhaps climb the famous steps to Whitby Abbey before continuing through scenic moorland, travelling past Scaling reservoir on our return to the hotel.
Friday After breakfast we leave Yorkshire and head for home, arriving in our home areas where we are greeted by our awaiting taxis.
