The Scottish Borders are an area of unspoilt beauty, peace and tranquillity and rich in heritage. Featuring hugely in Scottish history the borders are forever associated with Robbie Burns, Scotlandís National Bard, Robert the Bruce, born in Lochmaben and Mary Queen of Scots. Our tour based in the world famous village of Gretna Green will show the best of this wonderful region. We also include a cruise Kielder Water an enormous breathtaking lake and view the renowned Hadrianís Wall.
Nestling in 10 acres of landscape grounds, and situated midway between the Borders Region and Scotlandís southwest, the Gretna Hall Hotel is in the centre of Gretna Green. All of the en-suite bedrooms have a TV, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift that serves all floors.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive North. We cross the border to arrive in Scotland and at Gretna Hall where we enjoy a welcome tea/coffee and shortbread, which will be followed by time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday Todayís excursion takes us along Solwayís coast, to the fishing port of Kirkcudbright, stopping at Sweetheart Abbey along the way before continuing to Newton Stewart for a lunch stop. After time here we travel through scenic Galloway Forest Park and through New Galloway to Dumfries and finally back to Gretna where we have time at the hotel before dinner.
Wednesday After breakfast our day covers the scenic Scottish Borders Region. We begin with a drive to Hawick for a short break before continuing via Galashiels to the town of Peebles, where we enjoy time for lunch and exploration. This afternoon we return to the hotel taking us through Tweeddale to Moffat, famed for its connections with the wool trade, Lochmaben and Annan.
Thursday Today we head for Longtown and drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park. Here we enjoy a cruise on the lake before we continue to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey that overlooks the market square. This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrianís Wall, which stretched some 27 miles from the Tyne to the Solway. We return to the hotel with time to relax before our final eveningís dinner.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts in Scotland and make our way home, spending time in historic Richmond en route. We arrive in our home areas early evening to be greeted by our awaiting taxis.
