Torquay is known as the heart of the English Riviera. This stylish resort with a strong Continental atmosphere, is situated at the heart of 22 miles of unspoilt coastline and enjoys a mild climate. Our tour includes a Harbour cruise in Plymouth and nightly entertainment in the hotel.
The 3 star Headland Hotel is set majestically overlooking Meadfoot Beach and the sea. Originally built for the Romanoff’s, the Russian Royal family, the hotels facilities include a sauna, 2 bars and is set in 2 acres of glorious grounds. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have tea/coffee making facilities. A lift serves most floors.
Monday From your front door to the Club Class coach for the drive south to Devon. Arriving late afternoon we enjoy time to relax before dinner which will be followed by the first of our nightly entertainment programme.
Tuesday A visit to rugged Dartmoor spending time in Widdecombe of ‘Uncle Tom Cobley’ fame before a scenic drive through the National Park to the great Maritime centre of Plymouth. where we include a Naval Harbour cruise. On departing the Mayflower Steps, your skipper will provide an informative commentary, as we sail across the Plymouth Sound flanked by the beautiful Devon and Cornish coasts. We pass Plymouth Hoe and the famous Drakes Island, heading for the river Tamar where the mighty warships and nuclear submarines await! Entertainment follows dinner.
Wednesday After breakfast we make our way to Paignton. We have time here to explore the harbour and sheltered coves, or simply take a stroll along the promenade before we depart. This afternoon we drive to Brixham with its quaint narrow streets, heading up from the waterfront. In the harbour is a replica of the Golden Hind, Sir Frances Drake’s ship. After time to watch the many boats heading across the bay to Torquay and beyond, we return to the hotel with time to relax before dinner and this evening’s entertainment.
Thursday After another fine breakfast we make our way to the lovely town of Totnes with its variety of shops and historic buildings. We have time here before making our way to Dartmouth with its River Dart which is busy with boats of all shapes and sizes. We have time for lunch and exploration before we return to the hotel this afternoon for our final evening’s dinner and entertainment.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts and make our way home. We arrive in our home areas late afternoon after a delightful holiday in Devon.
