Join us as we travel to Yorkshire and the elegant spa town of Harrogate for this 5 day break, taking in the varied food and crafts of the county, in addition to the ways, scenery and lifestyles of the lovely Dales. Prepare to be mesmerised by the picturesque countryside and wowed by the rugged landscapes which define the character of Yorkshire’s towns and villages.
The 3 star Cairn Hotel dates back to the 18th century. It is a charming Victorian era hotel which, although carefully modernised, has maintained many of its original features. Located just a short walk from Harrogate’s lovely town centre and Valley Gardens, the Cairn makes the ideal base for our stay. It benefits from a spacious and comfortable bar along with an elegant restaurant and each of the ensuite bedrooms has a TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities and is served by a lift.
Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north. We make use of the motorways to reach Harrogate and the Cairn Hotel with time to relax before dinner.
A day of culinary delights! After breakfast we make our way to Leyburn and our first visit of the day, Ceramic Inspirations, where a huge variety of items in all shapes and guises are produced. Next door is one of our favourites, ‘The Chocolate Shop’ where you can treat yourself to a little something! Next, we journey on to Hawes where we visit the ‘Cheese Experience’ at the Wensleydale Creamery – home of Yorkshire’s famous cheese. Leaving Hawes, we head along the dale to Aysgarth and Bishopdale, over the hills to Upper Wharfdale and Grassington. This is one of the loveliest villages in the Dales with its cobbled square and quirky alleyways and our final visit of the day.
This morning is free to explore Harrogate. With huge open spaces and broad tree lined boulevards, antique shops and shopping malls, elegant buildings, abundant greenery. Not forgetting, of course, the world famous ‘Betty’s Tearooms’. Later, we drive to Ripon with its magnificent Cathedral. Here we have time for lunch and look around before we continue on to delightful Masham, where we enjoy a tour & tasting at the award winning Black Sheep Brewery.
Our first visit this morning is to the small village of Kilburn, under the famous White Horse. Here, we visit the ‘Mousey Thompson Visitor Centre’, home to the famous woodworker, renowned for his little mouse carving which adorns hand carved oak furniture throughout the land. Our day continues to Helmsley where we take a break with time to grab some lunch before continuing on to Thirsk and ‘The World of James Herriot’ for a fascinating tour, including many of the props and 3 studio sets featured in the long running TV series.
Departing after breakfast, we make for home with suitable stops made along the way. We arrive back in our home areas after a delicious ‘taste’ of Yorkshire.
