An area of outstanding natural beauty, idyllic villages of honey coloured stone and thatch, gentle rolling hills, streams and lush valleys right in the heart of England. Our tour includes visits to Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle Gardens, Cirencester and Batsford Arboretum some of the many jewels that have made the region so popular. An added jewel is the superb Blunsdon House Hotel our chosen base for the tour.

Your Accommodation:

Blunsdon House Hotel - 4 Star

This superb 4 star hotel began life as a hunting lodge at the beginning of the 19th century, since then it has undergone many changes to become the welcoming accommodation we find today. Each of the tastefully furnished en-suite bedrooms have a hairdryer, trouser press, TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities and is served by a lift. Three bars, each individually named after a family member and with their own character ensure lots of comfortable seating.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Thursday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to the floral town of Cheltenham and beautiful Painswick before reaching the Blunsdon House Hotel late afternoon.

Day 2

Friday Today we head towards Batsford Arboretum near Moreton in the Marsh. Tucked away on the south facing escarpment of the Cotswold Hills, this jewel of the Cotswolds holds one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees. Take time to wander through the ever-changing landscape. Once you have walked through the gardens why not take some refreshments on the terrace café or visit the garden centre shop. This afternoon we visit some of the typical Cotswolds villages, a short journey takes us to the incredibly pretty village of Broadway. This is described as a typically English village, with its honey buildings clustered around the green. Followed by Bourton on the Water often referred to as ‘little Venice’ and regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England. We return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3

Saturday This morning we visit Cirencester the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’ and the second largest town in England during Roman times. John the Baptist church dominates the market square and the new Roman Museum is well worth a visit. This afternoon we visit Sudeley Castle Gardens, owned by Lord and Lady Ashcombe. There are nine magnificent award winning gardens which sweep round the castle all with unique style. From the Mulberry Garden with its country flowers and a Mulberry tree planted in 1865 to the Queens Garden named after the four queens who have walked there, including Katherine Parr whose body is buried in the grounds of St Mary’s Church.

Day 4

Sunday After breakfast we make our way eastward to Blenheim Palace, home of the Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Winston Churchill. The scale of the palace is beautifully balanced by the intricate detail and delicacy of the carvings, the handpainted ceilings and the amazing porcelain collections. After a good stay we return to the hotel via Burford with its magnificent tree lined main streets.

Day 5

MondayWe bid farewell to our hosts and enjoy more beautiful Cotswold scenery as we make our way home.
