We are delighted to introduce a new tour for 2020, a must for garden lovers. Kent is known as the Garden of England for its abundant flower meadows, fruit filled orchards and hop fields. Come with us on this stunning tour around the country taking in blooms galore as well as a selection of wonderfully preserved castles and houses, each offering a glimpse of times past.
Located in a semi-rural location just outside of Maidstone, the Marriott Tudor Park Hotel is ideally positioned for touring Kent. All 120 well decorated bedrooms are comfortable and traditional in style, with all containing a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a bright restaurant with views over the surrounding golf course and a modern, stylish bar and lounge area with comfortable seating. Leisure facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and beauty treatment rooms. The hotel also has a lift.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach we travel west to Cheshire. Arriving late afternoon, we enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, followed by time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday After breakfast, we make our way to Leeds Castle, the “loveliest castle in the world”. We discover the elegant castle rooms and explore the stunning grounds, riverside woodland garden and Mediterranean terrace garden, from where we can enjoy delightful views over the serene lake and parkland. Other attractions include bird of prey displays, a maze and grotto, the Dog Collar Museum, Elsie the land train and the Black Swan Ferry (small charges apply for the train/ferry).
Wednesday Today we have the chance to view beautiful meadows at Ightham Mote, a romantic 14th century moated manor house, garden and estate with a charming courtyard, orchard and extensive grounds where carpets of flowers blossom during the summer months. After we make our way to the moated Scotney Castle, to relax in the picturesque garden with its glorious backdrop of a fairytale castle. We venture into the beautiful grounds and discover the delights of its Victorian country mansion house with all its secrets and stories. Later we return to the hotel for dinner.
Thursday We begin this morning with a visit to Emmetts Garden, which showcases an amazing variety of flowering plants and exotic trees, with sweeping views of the Kent countryside. After a short journey we find ourselves at Penshurst Place where we discover its fascinating interior and formal grounds. We can have free time for lunch here before making our way to the Bluebell Railway for a steam train journey between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, winding through the peaceful Sussex countryside.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hotel and make our way home, to be greeted by our awaiting taxis after an enchanting break.
