This fabulous tour takes us to delightful Cheshire, known for its rural half-timbered villages, local red sandstone buildings and for its Industrial Revolution heritage. Its county town is Chester, founded as a Roman fort in the first century, home to the Roman walls and cathedral displaying 1,000 years of architectural history. Our base overlooks the Cheshire Plains and the distant Mersey estuary. We have a superb programme of varied excursions featuring North Wales, Peak District and Chester itself.
Set amidst beautiful Cheshire countryside, panoramic views across the Cheshire Plains and the Mersey Estuary await all who visit. Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach, for the drive west to Cheshire. We arrive in Frodsham late afternoon with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday After a leisurely breakfast we take a drive through the pleasant Cheshire countryside, bringing us to Chester. The historic city offers lots to see and do, why not explore the unique ‘rows’ of two-tiered shops, take a stroll around the City Walls or meander down to the River Dee before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Wednesday This morning we set off to Buxton, ‘Capital’ of the Peak District. On the way we take a break in the delightful Cheshire town of Knutsford. Our route takes us on the stunning Shining Tor road, with spectacular scenery all around. After we continue to Buxton, which has plenty to offer – lovely gardens, pedestrianised shopping street, cafes, pubs, tearooms and more. Our return takes us through pleasant Cheshire countryside to Northwich and back to our hotel.
Thursday Today’s excursion takes us through some lovely Welsh scenery, including the spectacular Horseshoe Pass, to the Dee Valley, taking a break in Ruthin on the way. In Llangollen there is a steam railway and boat trips operate on the canal across the country’s biggest navigable viaduct. Late afternoon we retrace our steps to the hotel, in time for our final evening’s dinner.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hotel and make our way home, to be greeted by our awaiting taxis.
