Overview

After the phenomenal success of our previous tours, we are happy to repeat this super break. Opened in 1894 The Manchester Ship Canal was one of the last major canals to be built in Britain. We journey along the 35 mile stretch from the heart of Manchester to the Mersey in Liverpool. Our tour also includes a visit to Victorian Southport, Chester and the Anderton Boat Lift. We are based in the exciting Salford Quays, part of the Manchester regeneration with shopping malls and museums.

Copthorne Hotel - 3 Star

This modern 4 star is situated in Salford Quays close to Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium. Overlooking the waterfront it offers stunning views onto the Quays. All the spacious bedrooms are en-suite and have satellite TV, phone and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has 2 bars and a restaurant with lifts serving all floors.



Your Itinerary:



Day 1

Monday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting coach for the drive north to arrive at Salford Quays early afternoon allowing time to explore the many new attractions after our check in at the hotel.


Day 2

TuesdayWe drive to board the ship for a memorable cruise along the 35 mile stretch of the canal. The cruise includes a lively commentary giving a revealing insight into the facts history and dramas of this major waterway. Our cruise through spectacular scenery takes six hours and there are ample facilities on board to cater for all needs. At Liverpool’s Pier Head the coach will be waiting for the transfer back to the hotel.


Day 3

Wednesday A visit to the elegant floral seaside resort of Southport. Take in the unique shops on smart Lord Street; visit the wonderful gardens of Victoria Park, enjoy the bracing air and take a ride on the tram to the Pier and Pavilion.


Day 4

Thursday Today we take a drive through the pleasant Cheshire countryside to spend the day in Chester. The historic city offers lots to see and do. Explore the unique ‘Rows’ of two-tiered shops and maybe do some shopping, take a stroll around the City Walls, meander down to the River Dee and maybe enjoy lunch in a riverside pub, or just relax and watch the world go by.


Day 5

Friday Our homeward journey includes a visit to the Anderton Boat Lift, the world’s first and England’s only working boat lift. We include a ride on the lift and cruise on the canal during our stay. Early afternoon we join the motorway for the return to our home areas.
