Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Sunday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north to Scotland. Making use of the motorways we cross the border to arrive at our first hotel, the 4 star Marine Hotel in Troon for our 2 night stay. We have a welcome tea or coffee on arrival before time to relax before dinner.

Day 2

Monday After breakfast we visit the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, which offers a unique encounter with Scotland’s favourite son. Set in 10 acres of the poet’s cherished countryside, the museum includes the famous Burns Cottage, where the poet was born, the historic landmarks where he set his greatest work and the elegant monument and gardens created in his honour. From here we continue, by way of the strange phenomena that is ‘Electric Brae’, to Dumfries House, a stunning estate and 18th century house set in 2,000 acres of land. Here we enjoy a guided tour of the house before an included afternoon tea. Feeling refreshed we re-join the coach to make our way back to the hotel.

Day 3

Tuesday After breakfast we say goodbye to Troon and begin our journey to Aberdeen via Glasgow, historic Stirling and Dundee where we have free time for lunch followed by a visit to Discovery Point. Here we explore Captain Scott’s Ship, named Discovery, which he sailed on his remarkable Antarctic expedition. We gain an insight into the man who captained this historic adventure at the turn of the 20th century and the story of life on board for the Discovery crew. After our visit we continue to Aberdeen and the 4 star Mercure Ardoe House Hotel for our 3 night stay.

Day 4

Wednesday This morning we travel along the beautiful coastal road to Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre where we see lovingly restored fighter planes from the WW1 & 2 and learn the history of the aces who trained here. Later we enjoy a guided tour of Glamis Castle, renowned for being Scotland’s most beautiful castle and famous for being the legendary setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. We return by way of the scenic Cairn O’ Mount road.

Day 5

Thursday Another fine breakfast before making our way along the River Dee into Aberdeenshire. There are more castles per acre in Aberdeenshire than anywhere else in the UK and today we go to Balmoral, the Scottish home of the Royal Family where we visit the largest room in the Castle, the Ballroom, as well as the exhibitions, the gardens and grounds, a delight at any time of year. Next we make our way to the Royal Deeside Railway at Milton of Crathes train station where we board the train for a 2 mile return journey. The Royal Deeside Railway is unique in having served all British monarchs from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth the second and foreign visitors travelling to Balmoral. After our journey we enjoy free time in the nearby town of Banchory before returning to our hotel for our final evening’s dinner.

*Please note: admittance to Balmoral is subject to members of the Royal Family being in residence*

Day 6

Friday A leisurely breakfast before spending time in Aberdeen, Scotland’s third largest city. See the impressive turreted Town House in Union Street, the castellated Citadel at The Castlegate and the striking gothic Marshal College, the world’s second largest granite structure. Late morning we depart for the drive back to the borders. We take the road to Stonehaven, then south through Strathmore to Perth. Using the motorway we cross the new Forth Bridge to Edinburgh, arriving at our overnight hotel in the Border country late afternoon
