After much success in previous years we are happy to offer this super 10 day Danube river cruise, with insights into the art, music and history of the Danube valley, it is culture all the way, as well as the spectacular scenery from start to finish.
The Esmeralda is a modern, comfortable vessel which has proven very popular with our clients on previous holidays. Each of the passenger cabins are situated on the main and upper passenger decks, attractively decorated and equipped with telephone, TV, mini safe and en-suite bathroom. Also on the upper deck is the reception and an attractive Old-Dutch lounge. The tastefully decorated restaurant is situated on the main deck. Both of these decks can be reached by a passenger lift and a chair lift goes up to the sun-deck. The entire boat is air conditioned.
Tuesday Our door to door services takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the shuttle a glass of sparkling wine and snacks set the holiday mood. On through France passing Reims, before crossing the border to Germany, reaching our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken late afternoon.
Wednesday After breakfast we depart for Austria. Travelling through Germany we follow the Rhine towards Heidelberg then via Stuttgart and Munich before crossing into Austria, around Salzburg and on to Linz where we board our river cruiser. A delicious cocktail is served during the welcome meeting, before we enjoy our first evening’s dinner.
Thursday Today is spent cruising the beautiful Danube! A chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery as we sail serenely toward Vienna arriving early evening. Lunch and dinner are served on board with the chance to go ashore for a spot of exploration this evening.
Friday After breakfast we re-join the coach and set off on a sightseeing tour of beautiful Vienna, a wonderful city with a fantastic mix of Imperial Palaces and residences, Art Nouveau masterpieces and excellent pedestrianised areas. We return to the Esmeralda for lunch on board before time at leisure this afternoon. Early evening we depart for Budapest.
Saturday Following breakfast on board we re-join the coach once again for transfer into Hungary’s capital city. Budapest is one of Europe’s most popular Spa destinations. Straddling the Danube we find on the hilly side Buda – Hungary of old with its medieval castle district, museums, theatres and libraries while Pest occupies the opposing, flatter bank and is home to historical monuments such as Heroes Square and lovely City Park. Lunch and dinner are once again served on board, later this evening we set sail for Bratislava.
Sunday Once again we find ourselves cruising the gentle Danube as an ever changing panorama of scenery reveals itself. Lunch is served on board prior to our arrival in Bratislava. One of the youngest capitals of Europe, Bratislava is a seaside resort without the sea! It offers a rich mix of cultures and cuisine with plenty of shopping opportunities centred around the old town and the huge open air market on Mileticova. The city also enjoys a great café culture and it is quite the done thing to enjoy a glass of Riesling white in one of the many pavement cafes as you watch the world go by. Lunch and dinner are served on board.
Monday Another breakfast on board and more relaxing cruising. Our next destination is Durnstein, the most famous medieval Danube river town in the Wachau region of Austria arriving after dinner.
Tuesday Our ship departs Durnstein early morning and makes its way further along the river to Melk, dominated by the Benedictine Abbey perched on a hill that slopes steeply down to the Danube and is one of the most splendid monastic houses in the whole of Austria. The coach will transport us in to the centre of Melk with time to explore before returning to our boat for lunch and setting sail once again for Linz.
Wednesday Breakfast is taken on board before bidding a fond farewell to the Esmeralda and its crew as we begin our journey back to Saarbrucken for an overnight stay.
Thursday Departing after breakfast we retrace the steps of our outward journey back to England where we arrive in our home areas after a most enjoyable Danube cruise.
Sailings can be altered at the discretion of the ship’s management and are subject to water levels. The exact sailing schedule will be confirmed by the ship’s captain.
It is crucial that all passengers have a reasonable amount of mobility as it is not always possible for the coach to park immediately close to the ship.
