After the previous successes of our holidays based here, we are happy to return to the fabulous Italian Riviera. Stretching along the glorious Mediterranean coast from the French border at Menton to Genoa we find this beautiful region, but around San Remo, Diano Marina and Alassio it is also known as the ‘Riviera of Flowers’. Our resort for this great value autumn break is Diano Marina often referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Riviera’, noted for its sandy beaches and lively town centre with many shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.
The 4 star Diana Majestic enjoys a panoramic location on the Ligurian seafront. It features a private equipped beach, and 2 outdoor swimming pools with hydromassage. Each of the elegant, en suite rooms has a classic design and offer satellite TV and air conditioning. Public facilities include a restaurant serving a wide variety of dishes, from local to international, a wine bar and a lounge bar. A lift serves all floors.
Saturday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. Joining the motorway we travel through central France to Dijon the capital of Burgundy and our 3 star overnight hotel, the Ibis Gare.
Sunday Magnificent Alpine scenery as we head for Chambery and use the Frejus Tunnel to cross the border into Italy. The delightful River Riparia leads us towards the great city of Turin before we turn south to the coast and our holiday resort of Diano Marina arriving late afternoon. A welcome drink is served with dinner.
Monday A day at leisure with time to discover our delightful resort.
Tuesday A full day to Monte Carlo and the principality of Monaco. A chance to see the late Prince Rainier’s Royal Palace, where a daily ‘Changing of the Guard’ ceremony takes place, the famous casino and the magnificent harbour filled with the most expensive yachts.
WednesdayWe have a drive up into the scenic hills behind our resort to see some of the beautiful small villages and vineyards that show a different side to this diverse area. We include a visit to an Olive Oil producing farm for an insight into the production. Later we visit the delightful resort of Alassio. Along the palm lined sea front and the main streets and piazzas the resort is flat with many narrow shopping streets, providing a great deal of interest for the wandering holidaymaker.
Thursday Today we visit the elegant resort of San Remo where we have free time to explore the old quarter, which is a delight, with its maze of alleyways and the sweeping beach front. From here we continue to the ancient medieval village of Dolceaqua. The village tumbles down the olive covered hillside from the 12th century ruins of the castle to the River Nervia.
