A fabulous event, now in its seventh year, which sees the iconic Wiltshire Estate of Longleat transported to a whimsical fairy tale land of imagination, through a series of giant and awe-inspiring illuminated lantern displays evoking a sense of fantasy and nostalgia amongst all ages. Alongside the remarkable outdoor experiences; Longleat’s prestigious Elizabethan stately home will be dressed in traditional Edwardian festive décor. This is where guests are invited to become characters in their own story and immerse themselves in an historic and eye-opening world of butlers, servants and housekeepers. Guides throughout the house will interact with guests and each other in traditional costume, breathing an enchanting life into the grand interiors.
This modern hotel is situated on the edge of Swindon’s historic Old Town. The hotel offers locally sourced cuisine in their on-site Brasserie and Bar. All rooms are en-suite and tastefully decorated, and include a TV, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel is served by a lift but does not offer walk in showers.
Friday From your front door we join the Club Class coach to depart our home area, travelling by way of the glorious Cotswolds to spend time in elegant Cheltenham Spa. We enjoy time for lunch and exploration before continuing our journey on to Swindon arriving at our hotel the Doubletree by Hilton. We are greeted by a welcoming tea or coffee and biscuits followed by time to relax before dinner.
Saturday After breakfast, we depart the hotel and make for our first stop of the day, Bath, a city so beautiful and special that it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a wealth of attraction including the famous Roman Baths & the Royal Crescent. After time for lunch we join the coach and make the short drive to Longleat, to view the spectacular Festival of Light. We discover acres of illuminations, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Longleat House and its landscaped gardens. Exploring Europe’s largest ever display of Chinese lanterns, hundreds of illuminated displays and incredible hand-made structures measuring up to 20 metres in height – beautiful by day and incredible after dark. After viewing the wonderful displays, we return to the hotel with time to relax before dinner.
Sunday This morning we enjoy our final breakfast and depart the hotel to begin our journey home. We spend time at the beautifully restored Grade II railway building in the heart of the former Swindon railway works which today houses a large modern shopping outlet offering huge discounts, lots of cafes and a wonderful Steam Museum of the Great Western Railway, where visitors of all ages get to climb aboard famous locomotives, have a go at changing the signals, and be an engine driver. Mid-afternoon we return to our home area and awaiting taxis.
