A new tour for 2020, taking us to the beautiful North Yorkshire to enjoy the festivities. We spend time in Harrogate and York, wandering quaint towns and browsing markets for Christmas gifts. Soak up the medieval charm of York at Christmas. Scents of spiced mulled wine and delicious food fill the air, making a York Christmas the place to be this season. We end the week on a sweet note with a scrumptious cream tea!
Located in the centre of the lovely town of Harrogate, surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, and is famed as being Agatha Christie’s hiding place during her disappearance in 1926. Bedrooms are stylishly furnished and the public areas include the Library restaurant, the Wedgwood Room and the lounge bar. All bedrooms are en suite and have a TV, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
Monday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach, for the drive north into Yorkshire. We arrive at the 4 star Old Swan Hotel mid-afternoon where we have time to settle in before dinner this evening.
Tuesday This morning we take a short drive to the spa and market town of Knaresborough, where we make a stop to enjoy the scenery and High Street. The town hosts many cafes and tearooms, perfect for warming up or you may enjoy a wander along the riverside. After we return to Harrogate, the rest of the day is free for you to explore at leisure. Enjoy a lovely stroll through beautiful Valley Gardens, explore the delightful Victoria arcades for some retail therapy. Have a relaxing lunch in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars or why not take a visit to the famous Betty’s Tearooms?
Wednesday After breakfast, our day takes us into the Yorkshire Dales, passing through the pretty village of Pateley Bridge, travelling over the moorland until we arrive at Grassington. We have a chance to take a stop here to enjoy the quaint cobbled market town and perhaps have a hot drink. Afterwards, we head to the market town of Skipton, known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’. The High Street leads up to the church, behind which you can see the impressive 900-year old castle and Skipton Woods. Today is also market day so you have a chance to grab a bargain or some local goods. We return to the hotel for this evening’s dinner.
Thursday Our day takes us to the historic cathedral city of York, to make the most of the city and enjoy the atmosphere of the Christmas Markets. Why not wander past the old shops of the Shambles, a medieval shopping complex or enjoy the shops of Parliament Street. Later this afternoon, we will return to the hotel to enjoy a lovely cream tea before relaxing prior to our final dinner.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to York and make our way home, we are greeted by our awaiting taxis after a festive getaway!
