New for 2021 we are pleased to offer a new tour to a wonderful part of Germany. Join us for a magical journey through Bavaria’s enchanted forest, resplendent in all its winter glory. The Bavarian National Forest Park is Germany’s oldest national park forming the border between Bavaria and the Czech Republic. On this spectacular scenic tour we include a visit to a Husky Farm, a treetop walk, a visit to a glass works and a tour of the historic city of Passau on the River Danube
Located in the very centre of the charming Bavarian village of Hohenau, the3 star+ family run Hotel Hohenauer Hof offers easy access to the Bavarian Forest. All 80 bedrooms have balconies, offering views over the village and surrounding countryside, and are equipped with TVs, hairdryers & tea/coffee making facilities. Sunday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of sparkling wine and snacks set the holiday mood. On reaching Calais we continue into Belgium to find our overnight hotel, the Post Hotel Liege, with time to settle in before our evening meal.
Monday After breakfast we continue our journey east through Germany. A scenic drive through the Spessart National Forest takes us to the beautiful city of Wurzburg with time for lunch. Later we reach Bavaria and our holiday destination the charming village of Hohenau and our family run hotel, arriving with ample time to settle in well before dinner.
Tuesday We set off this morning for a truly scenic drive through the beautiful wintry countryside of the Bavarian Forest, passing the Großer Arber, the region’s highest mountain. Our journey concludes at Bodenmais, where we visit Joska Crystal for a fascinating 20 minute guided tour and glass blowing demonstration (free of charge). Later in the afternoon we enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride, followed by a visit to a skiing hut with sandwiches and live music.
Wednesday Passau is known as the “city of three rivers” due to its unique position as the point at which the three rivers of the Danube, Inn and Ilz meet, and this morning we enjoy a 75 minute guided walking tour of this colourful city, once an important trading centre. In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure exploring the Baroque Old Town which was designed by Italian architects in the 17th century. Main attractions include St Stephen’s Cathedral, which houses the largest cathedral organ in the world, and the numerous churches and museums set around the picturesque squares, romantic lanes and enchanting riverfront promenades. Back at our hotel, in the evening we enjoy a magical torch-lit walk with mulled wine through the village with our hotel guide.
We pay a visit to a husky farm this morning, where we have a guided tour to learn about the lives of these remarkable, hardy dogs. We enjoy a warming drink at the farm, before heading off for a stunning guided walk through the treetops at the spectacular Treetop Walk in the village of Neuschönau on the edge of the Bavarian Forest. This accessible step-free attraction provides unique access to the treetops of the Bavarian Forest along its walking platforms to the impressive gigantic observation tower, from where we can enjoy magnificent views.
Friday We begin our homeward journey, bidding farewell to our hosts and heading back through Germany retracing the rout of our outward journey to arrive at our hotel in Liege late afternoon
Saturday We return through Belgium, viewing some of the sights of the capital city, Brussels, before reaching Calais for the early afternoon train. We reach our home area and waiting taxis early evening.
