The Glenburn Hotel - 3 Star

This charming 3 star hotel is set in an outstanding position above its own terraced gardens, enjoys a superb panorama view across the waters of Rothesay Bay to the Cowal Peninsula. The town’s shops, harbour and medieval castle ruins are just a pleasant walk away along the palm-fringed promenade. Hotel entertainment is provided each evening. All bedrooms are en-suite and have a television, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities and a lift serves most floors.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Sunday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the journey north through Yorkshire making a stop at historic Barnard Castle This afternoon we enjoy a scenic drive through glorious Teesdale to England’s highest market town, Alston then cross the Scottish border to reach our overnight hotel where we have time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

Monday After a leisurely breakfast we continue our tour experiencing superb Scottish coastal and mountain scenery as we drive along the Solway coast then through rugged Galloway making a stop at the amazing ‘Electric Brae’ before spending time in the home of Rabbie Burns, Ayr. More excellent coastal scenery this afternoon on our way to Wemyss Bay. Here we join the Calmac ferry for the crossing to the Isle of Bute and Rothesay, arriving late afternoon at the 3 star Glenburn Hotel.

Day 3

Tuesday After a leisurely breakfast we have free time to explore our new surroundings. Why not make your way into town for a pleasant walk along the promenade, enjoy lunch and watch the world go by or have a lazy day in the hotel and admire the views to Loch Striven and beyond.

Day 4

Wednesday We enjoy a spectacular sightseeing tour today. We make our way to the north of the island to Rhubodach, where we join the ferry for the short crossing to Colintrave, continuing northwards to Loch Fyne. We follow the coast road around the tip of the loch, turning south to the lovely little white-washed town of Inveraray. There is time for a look around and to obtain a drink and a bite to eat before our afternoon visit to the magnificent Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll. This beautiful castle may look familiar as it featured in Downton Abbey as Duneagle Castle. Later we retrace our steps to Colintrave and re-join the ferry to Bute, before returning to our hotel for dinner.

Day 5

Thursday After breakfast we enjoy a sightseeing drive around Bute, finishing with a visit to the superb Mount Stuart House. Set in 300 acres of landscape and woodlands, the house is known as Britain’s most spectacular Victorian Gothic House. It is an architectural fantasy of the 3rd Marquis of Bute. Set 5 miles south from Rothesay this is an ideal way to end the tour, the house and grounds offer us much to see. From here we return to the hotel.

Day 6

Friday This morning after breakfast, we bid farewell to our hotel and board the ferry to Wemyss Bay. We bid farewell to Scotland and head south to Penrith then over the Pennines to historic Richmond where we make a stop for lunch. This afternoon we return to our home area and waiting taxis, arriving late afternoon after a relaxing break.
