For 2021 we offer a tailor made holiday that reveals some of Scotland’s most ancient and impressive antiquities, vivid scenery and an intriguing mix of Scottish and Scandinavian influences taking in Orkney – an archipelago of 70 or so gently sloping and richly fertile islands and skerries lying off the north tip of Scotland where the days are long, the skies are enormous and the air is pure – and Shetland with its unique culture, dialect, ancient heritage and truly wild wildlife! Part of our journey is aboard a Northlink ferry enabling us see these wonderful places from a completely different perspective.
Thursday Our door to door service takes you the waiting luxury Club Class coach for the journey north via Scotch Corner, Gretna Green and Perthshire. We arrive at our overnight hotel, the welcoming 3 star Fishers set in the centre of the popular tourist town of Pitlochry, late afternoon, tea/coffees are served whilst the cases are taken to our rooms.
Friday After a hearty Scottish breakfast we begin our drive through the stunning scenery of the Cairngorm National Park, Britain’s highest and most impressive mountain range. We make a stop at a Highland distillery for ‘a wee dram’ before arriving in the ‘Capital of the Highlands’, Inverness to spend time for lunch. This afternoon we cross the Black Isle and enjoy a coastal drive to reach our overnight hotel, the Dornoch, in the delightful resort of the same name. This evening after dinner we have live musical entertainment.
Saturday A leisurely breakfast before we continue our drive north. We take the coastal road passing Dunrobin Castle, the magnificent stately home of the Dukes of Sutherland and the small port of Brora to reach Thurso and Scrabster. This afternoon we board the Northlink cruise-ferry for our crossing to the mystical Orkneys cruising past the spectacular granite outcrop, The Old Man of Hoy, en route to Stromness, Orkney. A local guide will join us for a tour of the islands including the standing stones at Brodgar, the ancient settlement at Skara Brae, the emotive Italian Chapel built by Italian Prisoners of War, Skaill House the islands finest mansion and the amazing Churchill barriers. Dinner this evening will be taken at a local restaurant in Kirkwall before setting sail for the overnight crossing to the Shetland Islands.
Sunday This morning we arrive in Lerwick. Breakfast is taken on board before we meet another local guide for a full day tour of the Shetland Isles. We visit the fantastically preserved Jarlshof Prehistoric and Nordic Settlement in the south then spend time for lunch in the capital, Lerwick. Later we spend time in 17th cent Scalloway Castle and Museum before visiting Gott Farm to view the famous Shetland Ponies. Back on board we depart Lerwick late afternoon for the overnight crossing to Aberdeen. Dinner is served on board.
Monday A morning arrival in Aberdeen with breakfast on board before disembarkation. Grand Highland touring as we travel along beautiful Royal Deeside, passing Balmoral and through the beautiful pass of Glenshee to arrive in Crieff and the 4 star Crieff Hydro our final overnight hotel where we can relax and enjoy the hotels facilities before dinner.
Tuesday Homeward bound, we join the motorway to make our first stop at Gretna Green, then over the border and south through England to historic Richmond where we make a stop for lunch. This afternoon we return to our home area and waiting taxis arriving early evening at the end of a memorable Scottish Island adventure.
