After the success of our previous tours, we are happy to repeat this super break. Opening in 1894, the Manchester Ship Canal was one of the last major canals to be built in Britain. We journey along the 35 mile stretch from the heart of Manchester to the Mersey in Liverpool. As well as visiting the Victorian Southport, Chester and the Anderton Boat Lift. We are based in the exciting Salford Quays, part of the Manchester regeneration with shopping centres and museums.
The 4 star Copthorne Hotel is a modern property overlooking the waterfront and offers stunning views onto the nearby Quays. All the spacious bedrooms are en-suite and have satellite TV, phone and tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel facilities include 2 bars, a restaurant and lifts which serve all floors.
Monday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting coach for the drive north to arrive in Manchester early afternoon allowing time to explore the many new attractions after our check in at the hotel.
Tuesday We drive to the dock where we board the ship for a memorable cruise along the 35 mile stretch of the canal. The cruise includes a lively commentary giving a revealing insight into the facts history and dramas of this major waterway. Our cruise through spectacular scenery takes six hours and there is ample facilities on board to cater for all needs. At Liverpool’s Pier Head the coach will be waiting for the transfer back to the hotel.

Thursday Today we take a drive through the pleasant Cheshire countryside to spend the day in Chester. The historic city offers lots to see and do including the unique rows of two-tiered shops. Perhaps enjoy some shopping, take a stroll around the City Walls, meander down to the River Dee and maybe enjoy lunch in a riverside pub, or just relax and watch the world go by.
Friday Our homeward journey includes a visit to the Anderton Boat Lift, the world’s first and England’s only working boat lift. We include a cruise on the lift and the canal during our stay. Early afternoon we join the motorway for the return to our home areas.
