Our door to door services takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the shuttle, a glass of fizz and snacks set the holiday mood. On through Belgium to Germany and our luxury river cruiser in Cologne. We board our ship late afternoon and settle into our cabins prior to dinner. We set sail tonight for Rudesheim.
We enjoy breakfast as the ship cruises gently south past the famous Lorely Rock, Boppard and through the spectacular Rhine Gorge to berth in Rudesheim after lunch. This popular wine making town is best known for the ‘Drosselgasse, a narrow cobblestone street lined with a host of beautifully decorated wine taverns and courtyards, with a wonderful atmosphere and a lively, colourful Christmas market.
We enjoy breakfast as the ship cruises north past the famous Loreley Rock to Koblenz where, after lunch on board, we are free to visit the traditional Koblenz Christmas Market. Located in the historic district, the market offers over 100 stalls with a range of arts, crafts and Christmas decorations, not forgetting the tasty snacks, mulled wine and sweet smelling Christmas cakes. Back on board dinner is served.
This morning we set sail from Koblenz past the old capital Bonn, home of Beethoven and the noted Siebengebirge (Seven Hills) to return to Cologne, arriving just after lunch. Here you can enjoy many of the Christmas markets that the city has to offer. The four largest markets are found at the mighty Cathedral, on the Alter Markt, on the Neumarkt and on the Rudolfplatz with each market offering its own unique specialities. Our final evening’s five course Captains Farewell Dinner, is once again served on board.
After breakfast we disembark and make our way back through Germany to Calais and the mid afternoon shuttle train back to the UK. We return to our home area early evening after a truly memorable pre-Christmas break.
