The Esmerelda is a modern, comfortable vessel. Each of the passenger cabins are situated on the main and upper passenger decks, attractively decorated and equipped with a telephone, TV, mini-safe, en-suite bathroom. Located on the upper deck you will find the reception area and an attractive Old-Dutch lounge. The tastefully decorated restaurant is situated on the main deck. Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Wednesday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of fizz and snacks set the holiday mood. Arriving in Calais we travel through Belgium and into Holland to arrive in Alkmaar late afternoon where we join our River Cruiser, the MS Esmerelda and settle into our cabins.

Day 2

Thursday Early this morning the ship left its berth for our cruise through the magnificent and colourful Dutch Bulb fields. We spend a relaxing day afloat watching the wonderful displays and enjoying the facilities and hospitality of the ship as we make for the bustling port of Hoorn. Hoorn is best known as the birthplace of the explorer Willem Schouten (who named the famous Cape Horn after his home town). Why not explore the splendid 17th century merchant houses and warehouses that line the waterfront along with the huge variety of ships, boats and yachts in the harbour.

Day 3

Friday After breakfast we join the coach for a visit to the beautiful gardens at Keukenhof. After plenty of time to marvel at the wonderful displays of brightly coloured flowers we journey back to the ship which is now berthed in Zaandam with time to relax before dinner and our evening entertainment

Day 4

Saturday This morning we make our way to Almere to spend the day at the stunning Floriade Expo. This beautiful event only happens once every 10 years, so we’re treated to a truly spectacular day out. The theme of 2022’s Floriade is Growing Green Cities, so we explore the creative, green and sustainable solutions needed to make our cities more fun, liveable and sustainable. Floriade is truly a treat for the senses; we enjoy the scents, tastes and colours of fabulous flowers, plants, vegetables and fruit as we discover 40 inspiring country presentations, as well as conferences, tasting sessions and a vibrant cultural and arts programme. Other highlights include the magnificent Arboretum, containing an alphabetically organised tree and plant encyclopaedia that we can wander through, and the fantastic 850m cable car journey, which transports us between the north and south of the Floriade park with fabulous views below! This evening on board we enjoy the ‘Captain’s Farewell Dinner’.

Day 5

Sunday A final breakfast on our cruiser before we disembark and retrace the steps of our outward journey to Calais for the mid-afternoon the shuttle train to Folkestone. We arrive back in our home area early evening after a memorable Dutch waterways cruise.
