A fantastic 11 day voyage of discovery around the fascinating and beautiful Emerald Isle. With ancient myths and legends to uncover, amazing landscapes to explore and locals who will be more than happy to reveal hidden gems. Ireland is a truly wonderful holiday destination and our superb itinerary is designed to show this unique land at its very best.
Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the cross country drive to Holyhead, during our journey a light breakfast is served. In Holyhead we board the cruise ferry Ulysses, the size of which is impressive, for the crossing to Dublin, we include entrance to the Club Lounge making the crossing more enjoyable and relaxing. On arrival in the Republic we drive the short distance to our first hotel, in Dublin, for our dinner, bed & breakfast stay.
After a full Irish breakfast we begin our day with a guided tour of Dublin. Included in the many sights are Trinity College, St Patricks Cathedral, O’Connell Street and time in the famed Guinness Store. Later there will be time at leisure to explore the range of shops in O’Connell Street and Grafton Street and the vast number of cafes and bars, each with a special welcoming atmosphere. This afternoon we make the journey north, passing Dundalk and Newry, to reach our second hotel of the tour, the 3 star Belfast Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus where we enjoy tea & coffee, then time to settle in before dinner.
Today we discover Belfast, a compact buzzing city with so much to offer. We include an interesting city tour then visit the ‘Titanic Quarter’ dominated by Samson & Goliath, two huge cranes from the old Harland & Wolff shipyards. The Titanic Experience is fascinating with the story of the ship told through nine galleries with state of the art exhibitions. The story continues into the aftermath of the sinking through to the discovery of the wreck. We visit the huge Dry Dock and Pump House for a guided insight into the construction of Titanic and her White Star sister ships. Later there will be free time in the city before returning to our hotel.
This morning we depart Carrickfergus for the journey to Donegal. We travel via the magnificent Glens of Antrim, a drive that takes us to Glengariff with its towering high cliffs and waterfalls and Cushendal, a picturesque village with brightly coloured houses then on to the stunning Giants Causeway. First we visit the interesting visitors centre to investigate the legend of Finn McCool, here we watch a short, informative film to learn more about how the fabulous causeway came to be before taking a minibus down to the Causeway itself. Later we continue our journey, arriving at the 4 star Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran late afternoon. There will be time to relax and settle in before dinner this evening.
Today we enjoy the town of Bundoran. The town is a popular seaside resort and is a world renowned surfing area listed as one of the World’s top Surf Towns. Here there will be free time to explore before returning to the hotel for dinner, followed by musical entertainment.
Today we bid farewell to Bundoran and continue our grand tour of Ireland to Dromoland. We take the coastal road to Sligo home of Ireland’s greatest poet, W B Yeats then beside the Ox Mountains to spend time in Westport, one of Ireland’s most beautiful towns and voted the best place to live in Ireland. After time for lunch and sightseeing we continue through wonderful scenery to ford like Killary Harbour then through the beautiful Connemara National Park surrounded by magnificent mountains as we drive to historic Galway and onto Dromoland, reaching out hotel the 3 star Inn at Dromoland late afternoon.
After a full Irish breakfast, we make a visit to the spectacular Cliffs of Mohr, Europe’s highest, towering over 700ft above the Atlantic Ocean, the views are amazing. After a good stay we continue on to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. The castle is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland whilst the Folk Park offers a fascinating insight into life in rural Ireland over a century ago with scenes re-enacted. Farmhouses, village shops, and streets are recreated and furnished as they would have appeared at that time, from the poorest one roomed dwelling to Bunratty House a fine example of a Georgian residence for the gentry.
After a full Irish breakfast we leave Dromoland and begin the journey to Killarney, enjoying a day of wonderful scenery. En-route we visit the picturesque village of Adare, considered the prettiest village in Ireland where the streets are lined by original thatched cottages dating back hundreds of years. Our first visit is to the charming town of Tralee, for a short visit, before continuing around the beautiful Dingle Peninsular. The roads are lined by fuschia hedges and the Atlantic views as we travel round rugged Slea Head are unforgettable. We include time in Dingle before the continuing on to the 3 star Gleneagles Hotel, where we enjoy dinner and live Irish music.
Today we enjoy a full day excursion around the ‘Ring of Kerry’ with its rugged Atlantic coastline and majestic mountains. This must surely be one of Europe’s finest scenic areas. We will visit Killorglin, Cahirseevin and Waterville making a lunch stop at a traditional pub, with breathtaking views, before returning over Molls Gap to Killarney. Our return allows time to maybe enjoy a ‘Jaunting Cart’ ride around the town with a memorable commentary from the driver.
A leisurely breakfast before our drive along the south coast. From Killarney we head for Blarney Castle and the world famous ‘Blarney Stone’, time for the energetic to ‘Kiss the Stone’ while others enjoy a coffee. Now on through Cork and past Cobh Harbour to picturesque Youghal, a busy port and resort on the River Blackwater, the ideal place to make time for lunch. This afternoon we continue to Waterford where we have time to explore the oldest city in Ireland, founded by Vikings in 914 AD, before checking into our 4 star hotel, the Talbot Wexford.
This morning we complete our Ireland tour as we begin the homeward journey, leaving Wexford to catch the morning ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke. On arrival in Wales we begin the final leg of our journey travelling through Wales and the Midlands, to arrive in our home area in the early evening.
