Your Itinerary:

Day 1

From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the journey north through Yorkshire making a stop at historic Barnard Castle This afternoon we enjoy a scenic drive through glorious Teesdale to England’s highest market town, Alston then cross the Scottish border to reach our overnight hotel where we have time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast we continue our tour experiencing superb Scottish coastal and mountain scenery as we drive along the Solway coast then through rugged Galloway making a stop at the amazing ‘Electric Brae’ before spending time in the home of Rabbie Burns, Ayr. More excellent coastal scenery this afternoon on our way to Gourock and the ferry over to Dunoon, arriving at the Argyll Hotel late afternoon.

Day 3

A morning drive around the shores of Holy Loch to Ardentinney then over the Forest Road to visit the world famous Botanical Gardens at Benmore, its collection of flowering trees and shrubs is unsurpassed. Visitors are welcomed by an impressive avenue of Giant Redwoods, arguably one of the finest entrances to any botanic garden in the world. Established in 1863, these majestic giants now stand over 50 metres high.

Day 4

This morning we travel to the historic lovely little white-washed town of Inverary, on Loch Fyne. Here we step back in time three centuries and pay a visit to the remarkable, unique and fascinating Inverary Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll. This beautiful castle may look familiar as it featured in Downton Abbey as Duneagle Castle. We have time to explore the town and obtain lunch before we make our way back to Dunoon.

Day 5

Using the short ferry crossing we spend a day exploring the Isle of Bute. The roads around the Kyles of Bute tower over the water and offer super views over lochs, hills and islands. In the main town Rothesay we include a visit to the magnificent Mount Stuart house and gardens. Home of the Earls of Bute the house is a feat of Victorian engineering with an impressive list of firsts including the first home in the world to have an indoor swimming pool and the first to be built with electric light and central heating. The gardens are home to a spectacular collection of native and exotic plants and flowers

Day 6

We bid farewell to Scotland and head south to Penrith then over the Pennines to historic Richmond where we make a stop for lunch. This afternoon we return to our home area and waiting taxis, arriving late afternoon after a relaxing break.
