The Royal family have strong connections to Scotland and this tour traces their footsteps as we visit Glamis Castle, Hopetoun House, the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Palace of Holyrood house, where we also enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea. Discovery Point, Dundee and a cruise on the Firth of Forth are also included.

Pitbauchlie House Hotel Dunfermline - 3 Star

Located on the outskirts of Dunfermline, this 3 star hotel is situated in a quiet location within 3 acres of wooded and landscaped grounds All 53 en suite comfortable bedrooms contain a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a restaurant, two bars and an informal lounge bar with comfortable seating plus an outside terrace which looks onto the hotel's beautiful gardens. There is no lift but ground floor rooms are available.



Your Itinerary:



Day 1

From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach then north by motorway to north Yorkshire. Then on over the Scottish border, through the Lowther Hills and over the River Forth to reach the Pitbaulchie Hotel late afternoon for tea/coffee and scones then time to settle in before dinner.


Day 2

Today, we enjoy a guided tour of Glamis Castle, renowned for being Scotland’s most beautiful castle. We learn about the castle which is famous for being the legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. In the afternoon, we have free time for lunch in Dundee before we visit Discovery Point and explore Captain Scott’s ship, Discovery, which he sailed to Antarctica.


Day 3

This morning, we make our way to South Queensferry, from where we embark on 90 minute Three Bridges circular cruise of the Firth of Forth. We enjoy magnificent views of the “three bridges” including the world-famous Forth Railway Bridge, the Edinburgh skyline to the south and Fife to the north. In the afternoon, we travel to Hopetoun House, referred to as Scotland’s finest stately home, we explore this remarkable house and admire the majestic grounds with magnificent views across the Firth of Forth before returning to our hotel.


Day 4

This morning, we visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen’s former floating royal residence for more than 40 years. We explore her five decks and discover where kings and queens, world leaders and celebrities were wined and dined. In the afternoon, we visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official Scottish residence, where we explore the grand rooms and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea in the historic setting of the Mews Courtyard.


Day 5

Our final Scottish breakfast before bidding farewell to our hosts at the hotel, we travel south to Jedburgh then cross into England and through the Cheviot Hills to Newcastle. Using the motorway we to return to our home area late afternoon after a memorable Royal Scottish break.
