Overview

After the great success of previous tours, it gives us pleasure to return to the resort of Paignton; occupying a central position in Torbay, it is famous for its white sandy beaches, rocky coves and popular pier. By day there is plenty for all and by night Paignton's seafront comes alive with illuminations and is perfect for an evening stroll. Our super 5 day holiday has lovely scenery and history in abundance, along with a train ride on the South Devon Railway, a cruise on the River Dart and visit to Powderham Castle.

Your Accommodation:

Redcliffe Hotel - 3 Star

The 3 star Redcliffe Hotel is beautifully situated on a promontory dividing two sandy beaches, boasting 400 metre water frontage. Each of the bedrooms is en suite and served by a lift. Facilities include a leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, a large, heated outdoor pool and a putting green.

Through beautiful Devon countryside to Buckfastleigh with time to visit Buckfast Abbey before transferring to the South Devon railway station. Steam power along the banks of the River Dart to Totnes where we join a ‘Red Cruiser’ for a sail down river to Dartmouth. After time to explore, sights include Dartmouth Castle, Britannia Royal Naval College, we return to Torbay by coach.

Day 3

A morning visit to the city of Exeter with time to explore the modern shopping centre and visit the historic cathedral. Early afternoon we continue to Powderham Castle which dates from 1391 and has been owned by the same family ever since. We include a tour of the castle’s majestic rooms and time in the beautiful grounds. We then drive along the Exe Estuary through the resorts of Dawlish and Teignmouth to return to the hotel.

Day 4

This morning we head for rugged Dartmoor passing through the little town of Moretonhampstead spending time in Widdecombe of ‘Uncle Tom Cobley’ fame before climbing the lonely road over the centre of the moor to the village of Princeton, home to the foreboding Dartmoor Prison, then descend to historic Plymouth. The historic seafaring port enjoys a picturesque harbour setting. The Elizabethan Barbican where Drake, Raleigh and the Pilgrim Fathers weighed anchor is a great attraction. A direct route returns us to the hotel.
