Breathtaking Norway is one of the most naturally appealing holiday destinations in the world and has left many a visitor in awe of its splendour. Our tour combines a stay at a historic lakeside hotel in Vradal, a small village in the midst of Norway’s Telemark region. Also staying at Balestrand, the artistic capital of the Sognefjord, with its narrow fjord branches and scenic mountain landscapes. Both hotels offer good facilities and high standards of food, accommodation and service. Other tour highlights include visits to the Norwegian glacier museum and the Sogn Folk Museum with various scenic journeys around beautiful Norway, tempting you with royal mountains, lush forests and quiet lakes.

The Straad Hotel - 4 Star

This 4 star hotel is located in Vradal, on the north shore of Lake Nisser in Norway’s Telemark region. The hotel has been owned and managed by the Straand family for 4 generations. All of the 125 bedrooms are ensuite and have a TV, minibar, hairdryer, radio and a telephone. The hotel has a bar, restaurant, indoor heated swimming pool and several comfortable lounges and relaxation areas as well as a pleasant outdoor terrace. The front of the hotel enjoys views of Lake Nisser and only a few steps away is the hotels lakeside garden. The hotel is served by a lift.

Kviknes Hotel - 4 Star

Kviknes is a modern hotel with old-world charm, atmosphere and with 190 guest rooms is one of the most traditional hotels in Norway.It is located in beautiful Norwegian scenery on the shores of the Sognefjord. This spacious hotel consists of two connected buildings, a traditional wing built in typical Swiss style and a modern wing built in the 1960s. Our rooms are found in the modern wing. Each room features a separate seating area, work desk and cable TV, most rooms have balconies with fjord views. The on-site restaurant offers international cuisine and a well-stocked wine cellar. Guests can especially enjoy the fjord views from the dining room and terrace. A lift serves all floors.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of fizz and snacks sets the holiday mood. Arriving in Calais we begin our drive through Belgium to Holland and our overnight hotel, the Postilion, in Deventer, close to Arnhem

Day 2

A buffet breakfast before heading north through Germany passing the cities of Bremen & Hamburg before crossing the Danish border to reach our overnight hotel, the Scandic Kolding, in the town of the same name early evening well in time for dinner.

Day 3

After an early breakfast we proceed north through Jutland to Hirtshalas for the ferry to Norway. Following our arrival in Norway, we travel inland and enjoy a first taste of the pristine scenery for which Norway is so rightly famed for. The journey includes wonderful Lakeland scenery before arriving at Vradel and our hotel where we will be staying for two nights.

Day 4

Today we have a free morning to explore our resort, the hotel has great facilities including an indoor pool, panoramic terrace, lounge and a wonderful garden that sweeps down from the hotel and right to the lake shore and beach. This afternoon we include a 2 hour cruise on Lake Nisser on the veteran boat MS Fram. The Fram dates from 1909, a journey takes us between small islands and through an old lock. A captain with a lot of local information guides us from Vrådal to Storstraumsbukti. We might even be able to spot a beaver on our cruise!

Day 5

We depart our hotel and make our way to Brunkenburg before crossing the Haukelifiel Mountain Road and descending to the Sorfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjord, at Odda. We make a lunch stop here before continuing along the western shore of the Hardangerfjord. Overlooked by the Folgefonn Glacier the road is flanked by fruit trees on one side and the deep fjord on the other. We arrive in Utne and take the short ferry ride across to Kvanndal. North then, past Voss and then towards Gudvangen before climbing up on to the Vik Mountains where snow can often be seen right into the late spring. We then descend towards Vik with exciting views on to and across the mighty Sognefjord. Here we take a ferry across the fjord to arrive in the beautiful village of Balestrand and The Kviknes Hotel.

Day 6

This morning we have time at leisure to explore Balestrand which is based in an idyllic location on the short of the longest and deepest fjord in the world Sognefjord. Late morning we take a ferry ride to make a short trip along the fjord, stopping for lunch in Sogndal. We proceed in the afternoon for a visit to the Sogn Folk Museum in Kaupange, one of the oldest and biggest folk museums in Norway,

Day 7

After breakfast we ascent on to the Gaularfjell High Mountain road, one of Norway’s National Tourist Routes, the road twists and turns through no less than nine dramatic hairpin bends. We eventually arrive in Skei, a small town with a picturesque location at the top of Lake Jolstratnet. We spend some time here before moving on to the Norwegian Glacier Museum and then Sogndal, where there are un-missable photo opportunities which allows wonderful views along the Fjaerlandsfjord.

Day 8

Today we enjoy a scenic drive viewing spectacular fjords, river valleys and Norway’s southern coastline. We start the day with two short fjord ferry crossings before joining the old Oslo/ Bergen post route through the Laerdal Valley with a short photo stop at the Borgund Stave Church. We drive along one of Norway’s most famous salmon fishing rivers,before making a stop in Borgund for a look around before continuing through Hemsedal, one of Norway’s most famous downhill skiing areas.

Day 9

An early breakfast at the hotel before we board the Color Line fast ferry from Larvik back to Denmark. Disembarking in Hirtshals at midday we make our way through Jutland and southern Denmark to the German border and on to our overnight hotel in the city of Neumunster.

Day 10

An interesting day as we drive through northern Germany and into Holland to spend time in the historic city of Arnhem, famous for the battle fought by British paratroopers in their heroic but failed attempt to hold off the German army in WW2. We continue to the coast and the Hook of Holland for the relaxing overnight cruise – ferry back to the UK. Accommodation is in 2 berth outer cabins. Day 11 Early morning we approach the port of Harwich and after time for breakfast we disembark for the drive through Suffolk to return to our home area and waiting taxis approx. midday at the end of a tour to remember

Insurance Premiums are renewed from 1st January 2022. If you are making a booking after this date the rate will be revised from that shown in our brochure.
