A new pre-Christmas break for 2017 to Worthing, the largest town in West Sussex. We are assured of a wonderful festive atmosphere along with a great Turkey and Tinsel themed entertainment programme and a super excursion programme including historic Portsmouth, Winchester, ancient capital of England and regency Brighton.
Set on the promenade within the town centre of Worthing, the Chatsworth Hotel is a Grade II listed building, steeped in history with a Georgian frontage. The hotel has 97 ensuite bedrooms, with many overlooking the Steyne Gardens. There is a lift to all floors.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive south. We spend time in the cathedral city of Guildford, the county capital of Surrey before crossing the South Downs to Worthing. On arrival there will be tea, coffee and mince pies served before time to settle in before dinner this evening, which is followed by musical entertainment.
Tuesday After a full English breakfast, we head for Brighton and visit the extraordinary and extravagant pleasure palace, Brighton Pavilion. Built for the Prince Regent, late King George IV, in stages between 1787 and 1823, the Royal Pavilion is remarkable for its exotic oriental appearance both inside and out. The magnificent royal pleasure palace was revered by fashionable Regency society and is still a distinctive landmark for vibrant Brighton and Hove today. Following our visit there will be free time in Brighton to explore before we return to our hotel. This evening there will be a sherry reception followed by a traditional 4 course Christmas dinner and entertainment.
Wednesday This our first visit of the day is to Romsey, the setting of TV’s ‘Inspector Wexford’ programmes. After spending time here we continue on to Winchester, the ancient Saxon Capital of England and lovely place to spend time with its busy little centre – full of olde worlde character, the perfect opportunity for a spot of Christmas shopping! We return to the hotel in time for a Boxing Day Gala dinner which is followed by singing and dancing.
Thursday This morning we enjoy a drive through the South Downs on our way to the great Maritime centre of Portsmouth. In the city of Charles Dickens we find a host of attractions both new, the impressive Spinnaker Tower affording magnificent sea views and the old represented by the fascinating Historic Dockyard, home to the Mary Rose and Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory We return to the hotel with time to relax before we see out the old year with dinner and welcome in the new year with a glass of Bucks Fizz and a chorus of Auld Lang Syne.
Friday Our final breakfast today before we head back home, spending time in Tunbridge Wells before a mid-afternoon return to our home area and waiting taxis.
