The 3 star Shap Well Hotel is another Fenn Holiday favourite set in tranquil surroundings amongst the Lakeland fells and is an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful corner of England. Set in 30 acres of grounds, the hotel offers a wellstocked bar, lounges and spacious restaurant. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have tea and coffee making facilities. There is a lift at this hotel.
Monday From your front door to the waiting coach we make our way north via Yorkshire to Cumbria and our holiday hotel, The Shap Wells Hotel with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday We spend time this morning in the pleasant town of Penrith before we head of to the Western Lakes and Keswick. Here we have time to explore and have lunch, maybe take a stroll to the shore of Derwentwater. After our visit we return via a scenic route through beautiful countryside back to our hotel.
Wednesday Today we are off exploring the High Pennines and Durham Dales. We head across the hills via Brough to Barnard Castle, known as ‘Barney’ to the locals. Here we take a break and you can explore this charming Durham town. Moving on we make our way north through moorland scenery and onto Weardale and the town of Stanhope, with the Durham Dales Visitor Centre. We enjoy a break for lunch before heading west along the dale to Nenthead and Alston, high up in the Pennines. After a stop here we descend the spectacular Hartside Pass into Penrith for our final halt of the day before returning across the Shap Fells to our hotel.
Thursday After breakfast we enjoy more fantastic scenery. We re-join the coach and make our way to Ullswater, said by many to be the most beautiful of all the Lakes. We follow the shore road along the lake to Glenridding and continue over rugged Kirkstone Pass, with the lonely Inn at the summit and descend into Windermere and Bowness. Here we take a lunch break and have time to explore the town or just relax by the lake. Our final stop today is in the town of Kendal before we make our way back over the Shap Fells to the hotel and our final night’s dinner.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts at the Shap Wells Hotel. Retracing our outward route we head south, reaching our home area late afternoon.
