For 2018 we are delighted to offer this wonderful scenic tour taking in one of the greatest train journeys anywhere, along the famous West Highland Line to Mallaig. Based in Fort William this tour also offers some of the best Scottish scenery, with a visit to Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Our included package has complimentary drinks and lunches.
This 3 star standard hotel, located in the town centre of Fort William, has been welcoming guests since Victorian times, with a friendly atmosphere and offers comfortable and well equipped accommodation. All bedroom are en-suite and have television and tea/coffee making facilities. Entertainment is provided some evenings. This hotel does have a lift.
Sunday Our door to door service takes us to your waiting coach for the drive north. We spend time in one of England’s smallest cites, Ripon. Then following the River Ure we make for Leyburn and broad green Wensleydale. We make an afternoon stop in popular Hawes at the head of the dale before continuing to our overnight hotel, the Shap Wells Hotel in the Lake District.
Monday After breakfast we continue on our way through Southern Scotland, past Glasgow, alongside the shores of Loch Lomond and over rugged and desolate Rannoch Moor to arrive at Fort William and our main hotel, the Alexandra Hotel where we have time to settle in before this evening’s dinner.
Tuesday Today we spend the day at leisure. Why not head into the town and visit the West Highland Museum, which houses a large collection of Jacobite memorabilia or simply sit in a local café watching the world pass by. A light lunch will be available at the hotel.
Wednesday This morning we join the Scotrail train on a round trip of 84 miles to Mallaig. Regarded as one of the world’s most great rail journeys, we follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express. From views of mighty Ben Nevis, the memorable journey takes us to Glenfinnan and over the famous 21 arch Horseshoe viaduct, the picturesque silver sands of Morar to Mallaig, a busy fishing port and also departure point for the ferry to the Isle of Skye. We have time for a look around the town before we catch the return train to Fort William. A packed lunch will be provided today.
Thursday Today we enjoy a spectacular visit to Spean Bridge, with the Commando Memorial, Loch Garry with stunning views along Glen Moriston to Loch Ness and Fort Augustus, where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. We have time to explore, maybe visit the Caledonian Canal visitor centre before we return along Loch Lochy to Fort William.
Friday Today we bid farewell to our hosts as we drive south to our overnight hotel. We recross lonely Rannoch Moor then a lovely wooded drive through ‘Rob Roy Country’ before passing the Wallace Monument to spend time for lunch and sightseeing in historic Stirling. This afternoon we pass Glasgow and make our way back over the border to reach our overnight hotel.
Saturday Homeward bound by way of the Lake District and Yorkshire with a stop in busy and historic Skipton before arriving in our home area late afternoon at the end of a memorable holiday amid amazing Scottish scenery.
