Thursday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Knutsford. Arriving at the hotel this afternoon we have time to settle in before dinner.
Friday After a leisurely breakfast we travel to Adlington Hall and Gardens. This beautiful country home reflects both the history of English architecture and the 700 year story of a single family, the Leghs. Highlights of the hall include The Great Organ, The Great Hall and the sturdy sixteenth Century gatehouse doors, complete with holes used by the Royalists defenders as they aimed their muskets at the Parliamentarians in the Civil War. Adlington’s gardens are an oasis of tranquillity, with the Rose Garden, the Flower Parterre and the Father Tiber Garden. We continue to Macclesfield for free time before returning to the hotel for dinner.
Saturday A full English breakfast before we travel to nearby Stockport for our visit of the Air Raid Shelters- a labyrinth of tunnels under part of the town centre that have been imaginatively restored to give the feel of the Blitz and the struggle that Britain was facing. This afternoon we continue to Tatton Park, one of the UK’s most complete historic estates. It is home to a Tudor Old Hall, Neo-Classical Mansion, 50 acres of landscape gardens, a rare-breed farm and 1,000 acres of deer park. There are also speciality shops, restaurants and tea rooms. After a good stay we return to the hotel.
Sunday Today we travel to Manchester Airport and the Runway Visitor Park to board the famous Concorde. Here we see the luxurious leather seats and learn about some of the aircraft’s famous passengers. Sit in the pilot’s seat and discover some of the unique features that made the Concorde so special. Later we continue to Quarry Bank Mill, one of Britain’s greatest industrial heritage sites, showing how complete industrial community lived. Highlights include a working mill, the Apprentice House and the Glasshouse. We return to the hotel for our final evening’s dinner.
Monday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts as we make our way home. Arriving in our home areas this afternoon we are greeted by our awaiting taxis.
