The Royal Victoria Hotel is uniquely located close to Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon. All bedrooms are ensuite with modern decor. Each have a telephone, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and ahairdryer. Although the hotel does have a lift, it does not serve all floors.
Once a favoured retreat for Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, the hotel has been sympathetically modernized to blend its old world charm with modern facilities. All rooms have private bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, telephone, televisions, radio and free Wi-Fi. A lift serves all floors.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive across the country to Wales. Crossing the border we arrive in Llanberis in the heart of Snowdonia National Park to our first hotel, arriving in time to relax before dinner.
Tuesday After breakfast we will take a scenic tour of the Snowdonian countryside towards Betws-y-Coed, North Wales’ most popular inland resort where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries. This picturesque Victorian village is nestled within a beautiful wooded valley and surrounded by waterfalls, hilltop lakes and ancient bridges. We will then make our way to Bodnant Gardens, spread over 80 acres of Snowdonia, above Conwy. The garden has two part; the upper garden and the lower garden which is known as the ‘Dell’. Both of the gardens contain a wide range of interesting and beautiful plants from all over the world. This afternoon we continue via the coast to the Menai Bridge which takes us over the Menai Straits to the island of Anglesey and the town of Beaumaris, home to Beaumaris Castle, a great unfinished masterpiece and regarded by many as the finest Edwardian castle in Wales. This pretty seaside town boasts a Victorian pier and pastel painted houses and also has a wide range of shops, tea rooms and pubs offering award winning food. We then return to the mainland hotel and journey back to our hotel in time for dinner.
Wednesday Today is spent in Llanberis. This morning we will enjoy a scenic trip on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, a narrow gauge track and pinion railway that will take us from Llanberis to the summit of Mount Snowdon, the tallest peak in England and Wales. We will spend time taking in the view and Summit Visitor Centre before making the return trip to Llanberis. This afternoon is at leisure. Why not treat yourself to homemade ice cream at Georgio’s or visit the First Hydro Company’s Visitor Centre.
Thursday This morning we leave our hosts and travel to the beautiful village of Portmeirion. Created by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1976, he wanted to pay tribute to the atmosphere of the Mediterranean and show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without being spoilt. At this unique place we can visit the lovely gardens and picturesque village shops. We have free time here to explore and take lunch before continuing on the scenic coastal drive via Aberystwyth to Carmarthen and arrive at our hotel for the next three nights where we have time to settle in before dinner.
Friday Today we travel to Picton Castle which has be owned by the same family since the 13th century. It is truly a unique property, being a half castle and half fortified manor house, surrounded by stunning gardens. We can explore the labyrinths of passageways and towers, take in the views from the 75ft high Great Keep and, descend into Wogan Cavern. This afternoon we make our way to the picturesque harbour town and seaside resort of Tenby. From here, we can enjoy fantastic views of Caldey Island, stroll around the pretty cobbled streets of the old town or simply enjoy the beach and harbour area. We return to the hotel later this afternoon with time before dinner.
Saturday This morning we travel to Llantrisant where the Royal Mint has opened its new visitor centre. Here we will be greeted by our visitor host and after an introduction we are led to one of the manufacturing areas to discover how blank pieces of metal are made to become coins. This afternoon, after a good stay, we join the coach and continue to Cardiff, the vibrant capital of Wales where we enjoy free time to explore the exciting city before returning to the hotel.
Sunday This morning we say goodbye to our hotel and Wales as we make our return journey home.
