New for 2018 this unique tour combines the delights of ever popular Bournemouth, in Dorset and beautiful Cornwall. Cornwall offers many attractions depicting the county’s past from shipwrecks to smugglers and more. Our itinerary aims to showcase the very best of each region.
The 3 star Suncliff Hotel stands on Bournemouth’s East Cliff with panoramic views out to sea, yet just a short walk from the town centre. Hotel facilities include an indoor swimming pool and on site traditional English pub. This hotel doe have a lift. All bedrooms are en-suite and have a TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.
Our base in Cornwall is located in the ancient Cornish town of Lostwithiel. Facilities include a lounge bar, restaurant, outdoor pool and terrace. All bedrooms are en-suite and have a satellite TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel does not have a lift, but ground floor rooms are available on request.
Thursday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the dive to Bournemouth. We arrive at the Suncliff Hotel this afternoon with time to settle in before dinner.
Friday Today we have a free day to explore Bournemouth.
Saturday This morning we make our way to Lyndhurst, ‘Capital’ of the New Forest. From here we enjoy a delightful drive through the picturesque villages including Burley, Godshill and Brook. After a leisurely stay we return to Bournemouth with time at leisure before dinner this evening.
Sunday Leaving Bournemouth we head west past Poole and Dorchester to West Bay for a stay. West Bay was the setting for TV’s Broadchurch, where the spectacular East Cliff and beach featured prominently in all three series. From here we follow the coast to the delightful resort of Sidmouth for our lunch stop. This afternoon we make our way to Plymouth and cross into Cornwall over the Tamar Bridge. We continue to arrive at the Best Western Fowey Valley Hotel in time for dinner. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served on arrival.
Monday Our first visit today is to the grade II listed port of Charlestown, featured in TV’s popular drama series ‘Poldark’. The harbour was built in the 18th century to support the china clay and copper mining industries. Here we visit the Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre telling the story of the port, ships and wrecks along this part of the coast. For our lunch stop we move on to Mevagissey with its maze of narrow streets around the harbour. This afternoon we make our way to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, created over a 200 year period and rediscovered and restored over the last 20 years.
Tuesday A leisurely morning with time to explore Lostwithiel. This afternoon we visit Looe with its busy harbour and boat trips, and Polperrro with art and craft galleries and the Museum of Smuggling.
Wednesday For our final outing we drive to rugged Bodmin Moor and stop at the Jamacia Inn. With its Daphne Du Maurier associations and a museum filled with smuggling artefacts collected over many years. From here we travel to the North Cornwall coast and Tinagel with its dramatic castles ruins, and also the pretty harbour at Port Isaac, setting for TV’s Doc Martin.
ThursdayWe bid farewell to our hosts and head for home.
