We return once again to the glorious West Coast of Bonnie Scotland to experience the wonders of Ayrshire - a region of gentle hills and splendid beaches alive with sea life, often missed by many as they rush to the Highlands. We include a full day to the Isle of Arran, often described as ‘Scotland in Miniature’ and Culzean Castle. Our base is Troon, which is home to one of the world’s greatest golf centres.
The 4 star Marine Hotel is set in a beautiful location overlooking the golf course and across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Arran. The imposing building has an attractive reception and cosy bar that extends into a lounge area where guests can relax and an elegant restaurant with fine sea views. All the tastefully furnished en-suite rooms have TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a leisure club with an indoor swimming pool and fitness centre. Lifts serve all floors.
Sunday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north from our home area via Scotch Corner, to enter Scotland at Gretna Green, then on through the Lowther Hills and Kilmarnock to reach the Ayrshire coast late afternoon for a welcoming cup of tea or coffee at the Marine Hotel.
Monday Our excursion today takes us by ferry from nearby Ardrossan to Brodick on the majestic Isle of Arran where we begin a tour of the pretty coastal villages, moors, glens and dramatic mountains of the ‘Scotland in Miniature’ island. We include a stop at Arran Aromatics - Scotland’s largest independent manufacturer of toiletries, soaps and candles all made from local natural ingredients.
Tuesday Down the coast to Ayr and Alloway, birthplace of Robbie Burns, where we spend time at the Burns Heritage Park offering a unique encounter with Scotland’s favourite son, then round the Heads of Ayr to Culzean Bay and the amazing optical illusion, ‘Electric Brae’. We include a visit to Culzean Castle, the dream castle created by the great architect Robert Adam. Its noted for the impressive gardens and a flat within the castle given to the late General Eisenhower.
Wednesday A morning excursion: we drive north along the Ayrshire coast to spend time in the resort of Largs with its lively harbour, busy shopping centre and two mile promenade backed by lawns and gardens. There’s the option of taking the ten minute ferry crossing over to the island of Cumbrae – here you can sample the gentle pace of life on this friendly island. We return to Troon early afternoon.
Thursday Leaving Troon after breakfast we travel south through Nithdale, home of Robbie Burns, to Dumfries then Gretna. Into England, and by motorway to return to our home area late afternoon.
