Overview

A wonderful two centre holiday as we combine the natural wonder of the magnificent mountains of the Tyrol and the culture and architecture of Tuscany. We use two superb 4 star hotels that have proven so successful with our clients, the excellent family run Plankenhof in the Inn Valley with a backdrop of towering mountains and the Hotel Adua set in the heart of Montecatini Therme, one of Italy’s most fashionable spa towns, built with classical elegance and located between Florence and Pisa on the edge of the Apennine Mountains, one of the most beautiful parts of Europe.

Hotel Plankenhof, Austria - 4 Star

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Saturday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive south to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. Arriving in Calais we continue through France to arrive at our overnight hotel in Metz.

Day 2

Sunday Leaving France we take the scenic route to cross the border into Germany and finally Austria. We arrive at our hotel in Pill this afternoon where a welcome drink will be served before dinner this evening. Wine and water is included with our evening meals.

Day 3

Monday After breakfast we take the “old” steam train to Seespitz. A boat cruise will bring us to Pertisau. The village produces Tirolean mineral oil, an all-purpose tonic with a 100 year tradition of Tiroler Steinol. We return to Seespitz taking the steam train to Jenbach then by coach to reach the smallest town in the country, Rattenberg and Alpbach. Later we return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 4

Tuesday Today we visit Innsbruck, the capital of the Austrian state of Tirol that neatly combines an impressive mountain setting with a storied and historic past. In the afternoon we’ll move to Hall which has the largest and best preserved medieval Old Town of Tyrol. The name is based on the Middle German word “hal” which means salt source. This afternoon we return to the hotel for final dinner in Austria.

Day 5

Wednesday This morning we head south to Italy. We take the scenic Brenner Road over the Europa Bridge, Europe’s highest, towards Verona, home of Romeo & Juliet. We cross the mighty River Po, through the Italian heartland towards Modena, home of Ferrari cars, to Bologna before crossing the Apennines to reach our next holiday home in Montecatini Therme late afternoon. We arrive at the Hotel Adua where we are greeted by a welcome drink.

Day 6

Thursday Today we head to Siena, famous for the Piazza del Campo, the seashellshaped square on which the famous horserace, the ‘Palio’ takes place each year. This afternoon we proceed into the Chianti Valley. This hilly landscape interspersed with olive groves, cypresses, vineyards and palaces seduces all visitors. A wine tasting with snacks rounds of our day before we return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 7

Friday After breakfast we join the train to beautiful Florence where we enjoy a guided city tour. Admire the Cathedral with the Campanile and Baptistery and the Palazzo Vecchio, overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with the famous copy of Michelangelo’s Statue of David.

Day 8

Saturday This morning we bid farewell to our hosts and travel to Dijon by way of northern Italy, alpine peaks and the Mont Blanc Tunnel to the French savoy and the Saone Valley, home of the finest Burgundy vineyards. We reach our overnight hotel late afternoon.

Day 9

Sunday After breakfast we re-join the coach and head for Calais to catch the return shuttle to Folkestone. Coaching on we travel north to arrive in our home areas this evening.
