New for 2018 we are pleased to offer a tour to Zell am See, one of the most scenic and best loved of Austrian resorts surrounded by spectacular scenery. Beautifly situated directly on the shores of the sparkling blue Zeller Lake Zell am See has the advantage of being close to the Hohe Tauern mountain range and national park and the magnificent Grossglockner mountain region. Most of the historic, medieval town centre is traffic free with a wealth of shops and attractive pavement cafes in which to sit, relax and watch the world go by.
The family run 4 star hotel is located in the traffic free zone of Zell am See a two minute stroll from the lake. All the modern en-suite bedrooms have satellite TV and hairdryer. The hotel has two bars, a television lounge, several terraces and a spacious restaurant. There is a plunge pool and sauna and a lift serving all floors.
Saturday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the mid-morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. On through France to Germany and our overnight hotel.
Sunday A fine buffet breakfast before departing for Austria. Travelling through Germany we cross the Rhine at Karlsruhe and pass Stuttgart and Munich. Ahead we see the Alps and after crossing the border near the Wild Kaiser Mountains we reach Zell am See and our holiday hotel at teatime. A welcome drink of schnapps precedes dinner
Monday A restful day in our resort, make use of the hotels excellent leisure. Why not take a ride on the nearby cable car, or have a relaxing stroll by the lake. With the Zell am See card we are able to make unlimited lake crossings and enjoy one pleasure cruise during our stay.
Tuesday The scenic highlight of our tour, as we take the spectacular Grossglockner road. This magnificently engineered highway runs from nearby Bruck to Heligenblut and offers views over mountain peaks and glaciers, a truly memorable journey, climbing to a height of over 8,000 feet we reach the base of Austria’s highest mountain – the Grossglockner at 12,460ft.The awesome Pasterze glacier spreads out before us.
Wednesday A full day excursion to Salzburg – home of ‘The Sound of Music’ and the birthplace of Mozart with tributes to the brilliant composer all over the city. We include a visit to the magnificent Hellbrunn Palace where a tour of the gardens and fountains is both pleasant and full of surprises. Various parts of the Sound of Music were filmed here, for example the Pavilion where Franz and Liesel first meet is in located in the park
Thursday A scenic drive through beautiful Tyrolean Valleys first to the Pilserseetal stopping of at popular Fieberbrunn, then by St Johan to the year round resort of Kitzbuhl, a picturesque old world town nestling between the Kitzbuhler Horn and Hahnenkamm Mountains. With a wealth of cafes and shops it’s the perfect place to browse and take lunch. The return to our hotel is over the delightful Thurn Pass.
Friday This morning we spend time in Kaprun, a delightful village where we can take the local bus to view the impressive spectacle of dams built up in tiers, part of Austria’s greatest hydroelectric scheme. Another option is the cable car to the summit of the snow covered majestic Kitzsteinerehorn. The afternoon is at leisure in Zell.
SaturdayWe leave Zell am See for our home ward journey. Through Bavaria and the Black Forest, making a stop in the beautiful city of Ulm, home of the world’s tallest cathedral. We cross the mighty Rhine at Karlsruhe to return to our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken late afternoon.
Sunday After a fine buffet breakfast we make our way through the Forest of Argonne to Reims then north to Calais for the mid-afternoon shuttle to Folkestone. We return to our home area and waiting taxis arriving early evening.
