For 2018 we are pleased to offer brand new tour to the stunning scenery of the Bavarian Alps. Our base is the historic spa town of Bad Reichenhall, a favourite of the Bavarian royal family, we include visits to the magnificent island palace of Herrenchiemsee, picturesque Berchtesgaden, wonderful Salzburg and the beautiful Austrian Lakes.
This 4 star hotel is set in large landscaped parkland with a lake and located in the historic pedestrianised old town. Each of the en-suite bedrooms offer a minibar, TV, telephone and hairdryer most with a balcony or view of the beautiful Alps Mountains. Public rooms include a bar, terrace and restaurant, a lift serve all floors. The elegant hotel also offers a spa facility with swimming pool, sauna and solarium.
Saturday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. Arriving in Calais we begin our drive through Northern France to our overnight hotel, the Novotel in Saint Avold, arriving well in time for dinner.
Sunday After a breakfast we continue our journey crossing the Rhine at Karlsruhe Strasbourg then on beside the Black Forest to spend time for lunch and sightseeing in historic Ulm with its magnificent cathedral. Mid-afternoon we pass the Bavarian capital, Munich and reach the Wyndham Grand Bad Reichenhall Axelmannstein Hotel where we enjoy a relaxing welcome drink on arrival before dinner.
Monday A relaxing day in our resort, discover the picturesque pedestrianised old town and the beautiful Kurgarten Park or take a ride on the world’s oldest twin-cable gondola for a spectacular trip to the summit of Predigtstuhl Mountain
Tuesday This morning we make a visit to the largest lake in Bavaria, Chiemsee. Here we include a boat ride to the wonderful island palace of Herrenchiemsee, created by the famous Bavarian ruler, ‘Mad King Ludwig’. Modelled on the Palace of Versailles highlights include the ornately decorated State Staircase, the State Bedroom and the Great Hall of Mirrors. Outside the magnificent gardens are a replica of those in Paris with lakes, fountains and brilliant floral displays, a place that delights all.
Wednesday A day tour of the Austrian lakes we travel to romantic Mondsee, forever linked to ‘The Sound of Music’ stopping at the village of Mondsee with its Baroque Church where Maria married Captain Von Trapp. Then cross the Hollengebirge from Attersee to spend time on the shores of Traunsee. Our return is via Bad Ischl and beautiful Lake Wolfgang.
ThursdayWe sample the best of the Bavarian Alps as we drive to the mountain resort of Berchtesgaden with its narrow winding streets lined by pastel coloured Alpine houses. Our tour continues as we descend to the Salzach Valley and spend time in the magnificent Baroque city of Salzburg, famed as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This beautiful city with its many famous and historical landmarks is compact, very pedestrian friendly and overlooked by the magnificent Hohensalzburg fortress, easily accessed for rewarding views.
Friday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts and begin our homeward journey. Driving across Germany we make our way to our overnight hotel, the Mercure Hotel Saarbrucken Sud where we enjoy a welcome drink before dinner this evening.
Saturday Continuing homeward bound this today as we cross into France to join the Eurotunnel. Arriving in England, we make use of the motorways arriving in our home areas late evening after a delightful scenic break.
