After the success of this tour in 2017 we return to explore the Sugana Valley as well as Lake Levico and Lake Garda, for 2018 we have included an extra day. The base for our tour is in Levico Terme, a wonderfully tranquil location surrounded by the Dolomite Mountains. Renowned for its thermal facilities and the pristine waters of the lake, Levico is well placed for exploring the region. We explore Lake Levico, Lake Garda, Trento and Bassano del Grappa.
The family run 3 star Hotel Al Sorriso which provided our clients with such a warm welcome last year is situated in Levico Terme, opposite the park and lake, surrounded by its own extensive private gardens. Directly opposite the hotel is the lakeside promenade, which is perfect for a daytime or evening stroll, and the lido with a beach and a bar is nearby. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have their own balconies and the hotel has its own indoor swimming pool. The hotel has a lift that serves all floors.
Saturday Our door to door service takes us to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train to Calais, champagne and snacks set the holiday mood. We travel through France to reach our overnight hotel, the Mercure, in historic Metz in time for dinner.
SundayWe continue our journey through Germany via Stuttgart and Ulm before entering Austria. We cross the scenic Fern Pass then on past Innsbruck and over the spectacular Europa Bridge and the Brenner Pass to reach Trento and our holiday hotel in Levico
Monday Today is spent at leisure, why not explore Levico Terme or take a walk along the lakeside. Picturesque Lake Levico is surrounded by dense forests and reflects the colours of the trees on its surface, it is one of the cleanest lakes in Italy.
Tuesday After breakfast we travel to Trento, a city rooted in history and art, where the Italian and Mittleuropean meet. The city is filled with monuments and is built in the elegant Renaissance style. We have a guided tour of the city which takes us to the main attractions in the city, including the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the Duomo and the frescoed houses and council churches. There will be free time to explore the sights and the museums before heading back to our hotel via Lake Caldonazzo, the sister lake of Lake Levico.
Wednesday This morning we travel to Lake Garda exploring it both on land and water. We take the coach to Riva at the head of the lake where we spend some time before boarding a private boat taking us across the lake to pretty Malcesine then on down the lakeside road to historic Garda town. Our return to the hotel is along the scenic Adige Valley
Thursday After breakfast we travel to Bassano del Grappa, famous for its principle landmark, the Ponte degli Alpini, known as the ‘Old bridge’. The town centre is composed of attractive streets and three attractive linked piazzas ornamented with cafes, shops, churches and chatting locals. There is also a town museum, the Museo Civico, which displays locally archaeology, Apulian vases and a spacious art gallery. Why not try some of Bassano’s famous Grappa, a fiery liqueur which the town is named after. One of the town’s distilleries, Poli, has a little museum where one can learn how the liqueur is made and taste it too!
FridayWe make a morning visit to another of the small Italian lakes, Molveno, known as ‘Italy’s hidden gem’ and the charming lakeside town of the same name with a promenade, busy shops and cafes. Our return to the hotel allows an afternoon at leisure.
Saturday Today we head back through Austria, retracing our outward route into France to reach our overnight hotel, the welcoming Mercure in Forbach, late afternoon
