For 2018 it gives us pleasure to return to the Costa Verde, ‘The Green Coast’, the rugged scenic coast of Northern Spain, Cantabria. An area rich in diverse natural beauty from its golden beaches, picturesque fishing villages and historic ports to the magnificent snow-capped mountains of the Picos de Europa. Enjoy the cruise to Spain aboard the Brittany Ferries flagship – the Pont Aven. This is a truly wonderful way to travel to Spain and ensures a relaxed arrival, ready to explore this delightful region.

The Pont Aven launched in 2004 has dramatically improved sailing times to Spain. The ship’s stunning features include a superb pool and leisure area. A range of entertainment and relaxation options normally only found on cruise ships are available including shows, where talented entertainers put on a number of performances with live music, magic shows, quizzes, and DJs as well as two cinemas. For relaxation take a stroll! The Promenade on deck six allows you to walk all around the ship, while the ship’s top deck offers a calm spot to sit and enjoy the sea air and incredible views, particularly when entering or leaving the port. All cabins have air-conditioning with individual temperature control, en-suite bathrooms, comfortable seating, radio and alarm, and tea and coffee making facilities. Set in a beautiful location just a few steps away from the long sandy Berra beach close to the small town of Santona, the 4 star Hotel Juan de la cosa has been completely refurbished and offers excellent service and magnificent views of the local area. The air conditioned en-suite bedrooms have satellite TV, hairdryer, room safe and telephone. The hotel offers a restaurant, bar, lounge and an indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Lifts serve all floors.



Your Itinerary:



Day 1

Sunday Our door to door service takes you from your home to the waiting Club Class coach for the journey south to Plymouth and our cruise ferry, Once aboard there will be time to settle into our cabins and familiarise ourselves with the ships facilities prior to our sailing.


Day 2

Monday A morning at sea before arriving in Santander. We disembark and take the coast road to our hotel, where one can take a stroll or partake in a light lunch with plenty of time to settle in before tonight’s dinner.


Day 3

Tuesday A full day excursion into the stunning Picos de Europa Mountain range, travelling to Potes through the Hermida Gorge famed for its strong cheeses and then on to Fuentes De for a spectacular cable car ride (not included). We travel back via the beautiful coastal villages of San Vicente de la Barquera.


Day 4

WednesdayWe visit San Sebastian, Northern Spain’s seaside secret, built around a vast oyster shaped bay ‘La Concha’ with a mountain at each end. The city is a fine mix of old and new from the tamarind lined promenade to the narrow streets of the old town.


Day 5

Thursday A day at leisure in Santona, sample the local tapas and enjoy the beach.


Day 6

Friday Another gem this morning as we spend time in Comillias which in addition to a beautiful beach has some of the most important Art Nouveau buildings in Cantabria which include Sobrellano Palace Chapel and the Pantheon, the Pontifical University and, of course, the brilliant El Capricho by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. Later we take a scenic coastal drive along the glorious Costa Verde.


Day 7

Saturday A leisurely breakfast before driving to the village of Santillana del Mar, considered the most beautiful in Spain. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site the village is famous for its medieval houses and cobbled streets. After time to explore at leisure we visit the lovely old town and port of Santander, a real mix of ancient and modern.


Day 8

Sunday This morning we include a scenic boat ride around the Bay of Santona before visiting the delightful resort and fishing port of Castro Urdialles, dominated by is enormous Gothic cathedral. The narrow streets are lined by houses with ornate wooden balconies. We return to our resort for an afternoon at leisure


Day 9

Monday A relaxing morning before we return to Santander for the mid-afternoon sailing to Portsmouth. Relax and make use of the ship’s excellent facilities.


Day 10

TuesdayWe arrive in Portsmouth this morning and rejoin the coach to complete our journey and arrive in our home area.
