Another new pre Christmas weekend tour to pretty Wells, taking its name from three springs that emerged near the Bishop’s Palace, Wells is England’s smallest cathedral city, the cathedral is one of the most beautiful in England and has a truly medieval character. We include visits to Georgian Bath, the Mysterious Mendip Hills, maritime Bristol and a ride on the West Somerset Railway Santa Special.

Best Western Swan Hotel - 3 Star

The 3 star Best Western Swan Hotel is a 15th century coaching inn which faces the west front of Wells Cathedral. The hotel still features some of the original four poster beds and log fires. Each of the en-suite bedrooms have a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel does not have a lift and there are a limited amount of ground floor rooms available. A very stylish and well located hotel.



Your Itinerary:



Day 1

Friday From your front door to the Club Class coach as we make our way to the West Country. We spend time in Bristol to discover the maritime heritage of the city which includes the restored ‘SS Great Western’ and the vibrant chic harbour area. We continue late afternoon to reach our holiday hotel with plenty of time to settle in well before dinner. We enjoy a welcome glass of Bucks Fizz before our dinner.


Day 2

Saturday After breakfast we drive to Bishops Lydeard to join the West Somerset Railway for the journey to Willton. Before joining the train, we have time to look around the museum at Bishops Lydeard Station which first opened on 31st March 1862. During our ride on the ‘Santa Special’ we enjoy festive mince pies and a glass of sherry. The line was closed by British Rail in 1971 and reopened in 1976 as a heritage line and is the longest standard gauge independent heritage railway in the United Kingdom. Upon arrival in Willton, we join the coach for the drive back to Wells with time before dinner.


Day 3

Sunday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts as we make our way home. We enjoy a scenic drive through Cheddar in the Mendip Hills and spend time in the beautiful Roman city of Bath, with its host of attractions and magnificent Georgian architecture. Stunning Bath Abbey is located next to the wonderful Roman Baths, considered one of the finest of its type in the world. After lunch we continue our journey returning to our home area late afternoon.
