A great value weekend break that includes a visit to York’s colourful St Nicholas Fayre, time in the elegant spa town of Harrogate and also experience the beauty of RHS Harlow Carr Gardens, ‘Glow Winter’ illuminations, a new event by the RHS.
This grade two listed building was Harrogate’s first hotel. It enjoys a peaceful location in landscaped grounds close to the town centre and provides spacious and well-equipped accommodation. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have a TV, telephone, hairdryer, and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.
Friday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to York for the St Nicolas Fayre. The city comes alive with costumed traders, carol singers and the smell of hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts. The streets are lined with colourful stalls offering Christmas gifts, mulled wines and craft demonstrations. As well as the Christmas Market York has a wealth of attractions including the magnificent Minster, fascinating museums and the famous Shambles with its medieval buildings and narrow cobbled streets. Late afternoon we drive the short distance to our hotel in Harrogate with time to settle in before dinner.
Saturday After a leisurely breakfast we have free time in Harrogate. Spend the morning shopping on the famous high-street, exploring the town or perhaps visit the Royal Pump Room Museum. A trip to Betty’s Tearoom is a must. In the afternoon we travel to RHS Harlow Carr where we experience the ‘Glow’ Winter Illuminations. Here you will see Harlow Carr in different light this winter as special lighting effects bring a touch of magic with an illuminated trail around magnificent trees, shrubs and lake as dusk falls. Later we return to the hotel in time for dinner with the beautiful illuminations in our minds.
Sunday After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts as we make our way home. Arriving in our home areas late afternoon we are greeted by our awaiting taxis after a delightful long weekend.
