Another of our firm favourites, Weymouth. The town’s fine Georgian seafront is an impressive backdrop to the long arc of fine, golden sand, and the views from the bay are spectacular, stretching across the horizon taking in the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. There is a lot to do and see, in particular the traditional old harbour and modern yachting marina are both full of colour and interest. Our excursions take us to Hardy’s Dorchester and the fascinating Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum
The 3 star Rex Hotel was originally built for the Duke of Clarence as his summer residence when King George III held the Royal Court in Weymouth. The Rex Hotel offers the comforts and luxuries of a modern hotel yet still retains its original character and splendour. Situated on the Esplanade overlooking the stunning sands, each of the ensuite rooms have TV, tea and coffee making facilities. A lift serves all floors.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the leisurely journey south making a stop in Salisbury with its fine medieval Cathedral before continuing on to Weymouth and the comfortable Rex Hotel, arriving midafternoon with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday After a leisurely breakfast we enjoy a drive along the Jurassic Coast from Lyme Regis to Seaton then on to Beer and Sidmouth for free time. This lovely seaside town nestles beneath majestic red cliffs and the green hills of the glorious Sid Valley. Enjoy beautiful Regency history and friendly shops before returning to the hotel with time to relax before dinner and an evening of musical entertainment.
Wednesday A morning visit to Dorchester, the county town of Dorset, with its busy weekly market. Forever associated with the author Thomas Hardy we view his cottage in Bockhampton. Our return, early afternoon, takes across the causeway to the Isle of Portland for tremendous views of the famous lighthouse and Weymouth Bay before spending the rest of the afternoon in Weymouth.
Thursday This morning we take a relaxing drive along the Cerne Valley and view the famous Cerne Abbas Giant as we make our way to Sherborne then Yeovil for a visit to the fascinating Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum. The Museum comprises four large halls. Each hall has ground floor and upper levels telling the stories of naval aviation from the first manned kites towed behind naval vessels, to helium filled airships, seaplanes, bi-planes and the carrier borne aircraft of WW2 and modern Sea Harriers and helicopters. We return to the hotel with time to relax before our final evening’s dinner which is followed by live entertainment
Friday Depart after breakfast for a leisurely journey to our home area to be met by our door to door service at the end of a relaxing holiday.
