Time appears to have bypassed this historic area, leaving it immersed in rich heritage. We explore the open green land that inspired J.R.R Tolkein’s ‘Middle Earth’. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside we explore the canals and historic buildings that fill the Ribble Valley.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north. We spend time in the floral town of Harrogate before taking a scenic moorland drive to reach the Foxfields Hotel late afternoon. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served on arrival then time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

Tuesday Our first visit today is to the historic market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, a charming place full of cobbled streets, unusual shops and ancient sights. In springtime the church yard becomes a riot of colours thanks to carpets of purple, yellow and white crocuses. We then continue our journey to Lytham St Annes and towards Preston to Samlesbury. Here we enjoy an afternoon visit to Samlesbury Hall, steeped in fascinating history, retaining its original black and white exterior. We make our way back to the hotel late afternoon.

Day 3

Wednesday This morning we have a drive to Gisburn and Hellifield before travelling on to Lancaster and Morecambe. In Morecambe on the seafront is the stunning Midland Hotel. After being empty for many years this hotel has now been beautifully restored to its former glory. We include today ‘The Midland Afternoon Tea’, a mouth-watering selection of sandwiches, scones and much, much more. Later we have a little free time before we head back to our welcoming hotel.

Day 4

Thursday This morning we have a treat as we visit the Chocolate House, near Blackburn, to learn the art of producing handmade delicacies, with refreshments and samples included. From here we head for our lunch stop – the famous ‘Ossie Mills’ complex. This afternoon we have a short drive to Riley Green Marina. Here we join the boat for a relaxing and peaceful cruise along the canal, with afternoon tea served on the way.

Day 5

Friday After breakfast we depart for home taking the scenic road to historic Skipton. Today is market day and we have time to shop for bargains and take lunch before our late afternoon arrival in our home area.
