For 2019 we are delighted to offer this new holiday, taking in the delights that Wiltshire has to offer. Staying in Chippenham, this makes an ideal base for this tour. We visit many interesting towns and villages as well as an included visit to STEAM Great Western Railway and the SS Great Britain in Bristol.
The 3 star rated Angel Hotel is a delightful 17th century coaching inn set in the market town of Chippenham. Dating back to 1751, the hotel overlooks the market place and has been refurbished to offer modern contemporary styled bedrooms. The hotel has an indoor pool, a bar, a restaurant, and free Wi-Fi. Each of the bedrooms are ensuite and feature a TV, seating area and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel does not have a lift but some ground floor rooms are available on request.
Thursday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive south west to Chippenham. We arrive at our hotel mid afternoon with time to settle in before dinner this evening.
Friday Our excursion today takes us to Devizes and the famous Caen Hill Locks, a staircase of 16 locks on the Kennet and Avon canal. From here we continue across Salisbury Plain past historic Stonehenge to Amesbury and the cathedral city of Salisbury. We make a stop here with time to explore and obtain lunch before making our way back to the hotel for dinner this evening.
SaturdayWe enjoy a leisurely morning in Chippenham, a historic market town. This combination of new and old as well as the historic architectural gems and modern shopping centres make it an ideal place to explore and take lunch. Feeling refreshed we make a short drive to beautiful Bradford-upon- Avon for a quick stop before we move on to have time in the village of Lacock, famous for its picturesque streets and the location for many TV seriesí and films.
Sunday After breakfast we drive to Bristol. We include a visit to Brunelís SS Great Britain where you will learn all about the famous ship and its legendary creator. There will be free time in the city that was once the most important seaport on the west coast. Bristol is also well known for its Maritime Museum and the distinctive Clifton Suspension Bridge magnificently spanning the Avon Gorge. Late afternoon we return to the hotel where we enjoy our final eveningís dinner.
Monday After breakfast we depart our hotel and make for Swindon and the McArthur Glen Outlet for chance to do some retail therapy and get lunch. This afternoon we visit the superb STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway. The museum itself is housed in a beautifully restored Grade II railway building in the heart of the former Swindon railway works. It tells the story of the men and women who built, operated and travelled on the railway. After time to look around we join the coach for the return to our home area arriving late afternoon to be greeted by our awaiting taxis.
