A firm favourite with our clients; Torquay in Devon, the heart of the English Riviera, is a popular, stylish resort with a strong Continental atmosphere. It is situated at the heart of 22 miles of unspoilt coastline and enjoys a mild climate. By popular demand, we have returned to the Livermead Cliff Hotel, in our option, one of the best hotels in Torquay with simply wonderful views over the sweeping bay.
The superb Livermead Cliff enjoys an unrivalled position at the water’s edge with direct private access to the sea and has established itself as one of our favourite hotels. All of the comfortable en-suite bedrooms and well equipped including tea/coffee making facilities and a lift serves all floors.
Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the cross country drive to the English Riviera, to arrive at our hotel with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday After a leisurely full English breakfast we travel up the coast to Powderham Castle which is located in a unique, picturesque setting just outside Exeter, beside the Exe estuary. Six hundred years of history are contained within the walls of one of England's oldest family homes. Sir Philip Courtenay began building it in 1391 and it has remained in the same family to this day, currently home to the 18th Earl and Countess of Devon. After a good stay we continue on to Exeter. This delightful place has a rich history and has lots to see including the Cathedral, Maritime Museum and fabulous shopping centre. We return to Torquay and our hotel with time before dinner.
Wednesday A visit to rugged Dartmoor spending time in Widdecombe of ‘Uncle Tom Cobley’ fame before a scenic drive through the National Park to the great Maritime centre of Plymouth. Sandwiched between the estuaries of the Plym and the Tamar the city has been a naval base since the 16th century and in the 17th century the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from its Sutton Harbour to the New World of America in The Mayflower. Their last glimpses of England would have included much of the present day Barbican – Plymouth’s Elizabethan Quarter.
Thursday This morning we enjoy breakfast before travelling to Paignton for our Steam train journey to Kingswear, then cross the River Dart on a foot passenger ferry to Dartmouth where we board a boat for a circular River Cruise. There will be some free time in Dartmouth before we return to Torquay for dinner.
Friday We return to our home area after a relaxing break on the English Riviera.
