We return once again to the glorious West Coast of Bonnie Scotland to experience the wonders of Ayrshire - a region of gentle hills and splendid beaches alive with sea life, often missed by many as they rush to the Highlands. We include a full day to the Isle of Arran often described as ‘Scotland in Miniature’ a cruise on lovely Loch Lomond and visit Culzean Castle. Our base is the popular resort of Irvine.
The award winning 4 star Hallmark has been extensively refurbished and offers quality accommodation in the heart of Robbie Burns Country. All the comfortable en-suite modern bedrooms have TV, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Public rooms include spacious lounge areas, stylish cocktail bar and restaurant. There is no lift as rooms are on the ground and first floor only. Entertainment is provided on 3 nights of our stay.
Sunday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north from our home area via Scotch Corner, to enter Scotland at Gretna Green, then on through the Lowther Hills and Kilmarnock to reach the Ayrshire coast late afternoon for a welcoming cup of tea or coffee and shortbread.
Monday Our excursion today takes us by ferry from nearby Ardrossan to Brodick on the majestic Isle of Arran where we begin a tour of the pretty coastal villages, moors, glens and dramatic mountains of the ‘Scotland in Miniature’ island. We include a stop at Arran Aromatics, Scotland’s largest independent manufacturer of toiletries, soaps and candles all made from local natural ingredients.
Tuesday A complete contrast today as we head for Glasgow where we visit the superb Riverside Glasgow Transport Museum to marvel at the fascinating collection of vehicles on display. Later we enjoy an informative city tour before having free time In the heart of Glasgow.
Wednesday Down the coast to Ayr, where we spend time and view the Old Bridge of Ayr immortalised in print by Burns then on Alloway, birthplace of Robbie Burns, Round the Heads of Ayr to Culzean Bay and the amazing optical illusion, ‘Electric Brae’. We include a visit to Culzean Castle, the dream castle created by the great architect Robert Adam. It’s noted for the impressive gardens and a flat in the castle given to the late General Eisenhower. Our return takes us through the Trump Golf complex at Turnberry.
Thursday Our final excursion takes along the Firth of Clyde then over the impressive Erskine Bridge to Helensburgh, birthplace of John Logie Baird, one of the inventors of television. Our tour continues through glorious Argyle scenery along the shore side road of Gareloch and Loch Long to Arrochar before reaching he shores of Loch Lomond. After stopping for refreshments we board a pleasure boat for a gentle cruise on the waters of the Queen of Lochs.
Friday Leaving the hotel after breakfast we travel south through Nithdale, home of Robbie Burns, to Dumfries then make a visit to Gretna. Into England, and by motorway to return to our home area late afternoon.
