After much success in previous years we are pleased to offer this delightful tour based in Central Scotland in the village of Crianlarich. A train ride to Oban is featured as well as a sightseeing excursion around Perthshire and a distillery visit.
The 3 star Best Western Crianlarich Hotel stands in the village of the same name on the fringe of the beautiful Breadalbane region of Perthshire. The hotel has an onsite coffee house as wells as a bar and a restaurant. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have a TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities. A lift serves all floors.
Sunday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Northern England, where we arrive at our overnight hotel for dinner.
Monday This morning we continue our journey into southern Scotland as we make our way along the shore of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich, where we arrive at our hotel late afternoon.
Tuesday We join the Scotrail train at Crianlarich station for the ride to Oban. The line takes us through the Pass of Brander and alongside Loch Etive. Oban is the major post for the Western Isles ferries and the harbour is a hive of activity. The town has a level seafront backed by a wooded escarpment, with the skyline dominated by McCaigs Folly, resembling the Coliseum in Rome. We have time to explore and have lunch before we catch the return train.
Wednesday Today we head along Glen Dochart to Killin, with the Falls of Dochart rushing through the village. From here we drive along Loch Tay to Aberfeldy, where we have a lunch break. This afternoon we head south along the Sma’ Glen to Crieff. Here we visit the Glenturret Distillery, makers of the Famous Grouse, for a tour and a wee dram. Our return takes us along Loch Earn and Glen Ogle to Crianlarich.
Thursday After breakfast we discover one of the hidden wonders of the Highlands, a power station buried deep under Ben Cruachan- the Hollow Mountain. At its centre lies a massive cavern, high enough to house the Tower of London. The Hollow Mountain is unique, an underground world on a spectacular scale, a five star attraction that is not to be missed. From here we head north to Fort William, passing through some of the most inhospitable country in Scotland, with spectacular scenery and lonely lochs. We have time to explore this popular town before we are on our way south alongside Loch Linnhe to Ballachulish and Loch Leven. The Glencoe Visitor Centre is our afternoon break and here you can learn all about feuding clans and the infamous massacre. We return by way of Rannoch Moor.
Friday We leave the Crianlarich Hotel and make our way into Southern Scotland to cross the border into northwest England as we arrive at our overnight hotel.
Saturday After breakfast continue our journey home as we arrive in our home areas late afternoon after a fabulous Scottish holiday.
