Join us as we visit the west coast of Ireland and the lovely Counties of Limerick and Clare. Our tour is based in Adare, regarded as being Ireland's prettiest and most picturesque village. The streets are lined with original thatched cottages that have survived for hundreds of years. Some of the cottages are kept by local restaurants and Arts & Crafts shops, but many are still privately owned. We include visits to Europe’s highest cliffs at Moher, Foynes Flying Boat Museum and the fascinating Bunratty Castle Village.
The 3 star highly impressive, modern Woodlands House Hotel is set in 44 acres of land on the edge of the village. Each of the tastefully furnished bedrooms is spacious and bright. All have en-suite bathrooms, direct dial telephone, TV with satellite channels, trouser press and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel boasts an impressive restaurant, bars and comprehensive leisure centre. Although there is no lift, the hotel is spread across just 2 floors with many rooms on the ground floor.
Sunday Our door to door service collects you early morning, taking you to the waiting Club Class coach for the cross country drive to Holyhead, during which a light breakfast is served. Relax and enjoy the hospitality of the Club Lounge on the ferry crossing. On arrival in Dublin we begin the journey inland to Mullingar and our overnight hotel, the Bloomfield House.
Monday Today we journey towards Limerick via the ancient town of Birr with its famous castle, then follow the beautiful Lough Derg drive to Killaloe, then free time in Limerick before continuing to pretty Adare late afternoon.
Tuesday A full day starting with a visit to the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, which recalls the era from 1939 to 1945 when Foynes was the centre for air traffic between the U.S. and Europe. We continue with a ferry crossing of the mighty Shannon and follow the coastline to the spectacular Cliffs of Moher where we spend time before returning to our hotel with time to relax before dinner.
Wednesday Today’s first port of call is to the historic county town of Ennis famed for its music, we include entrance to the interesting Clare Museum. Coaching a little further we reach Bunratty Castle, the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland. Built in 1425 it was restored in 1954 to its former medieval splendour and now contains mainly 15th and 16th century furnishings, tapestries, and works of art which capture the mood of those times. We also include entrance to the Bunratty Folk Park, here we experience a living reconstruction of the homes and environment of Ireland of over a century ago. Rural farmhouses, village shops and streets are recreated and furnished as they would have appeared at that time according to their social standing, from the poorest one roomed dwelling to Bunratty House a fine example of a Georgian residence for the gentry. We allow plenty of time to explore before returning to our hotel.
Thursday A final full day excursion, first to Tralee, famous for its Rose Fair, then over the Slieve Mish Mountains to the beautiful Dingle Peninsular, visiting scenic Slea Head before our return to Adare.
Friday Departing Adare after breakfast for Dublin where we enjoy a city tour then time at leisure in the capital city before checking in to our overnight hotel, the Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley, close to the city.
Saturday This morning we head back to the port to board the Irish Ferries ship for the sailing back to Holyhead. On board we make use of the ships facilities before our arrival in Holyhead. Making use of the motorways we drive across country to arrive in our home areas early evening.
