An inclusive value for money tour to the beautiful Austrian Tyrol a region renowned for its magnificent mountains, lush pastures, picture book villages and chalets with flower bedecked balconies, a rich culture, music and dance. Our base is the small village of Igls used in the winter Olympics and overlooking the Inn Valley & Innsbruck. We visit the newly reopened Swarovski Crystal World for a truly sparkling experience and the sparkling glaciers of the Oetztal.
This charming 3 star plus chalet style hotel is located in the village of Igls, close to Innsbruck, it offers a beautiful lobby with bar and front desk, a spacious restaurant and an à la carte parlour in Tyrolean style, Bar and large comfortable lounge. All rooms have bathtub/shower, satellite TV, hair dryer, most have balcony or terrace and all are served by lifts. The hotel’s excellent leisure area provides sauna, steam bath, indoor pool, heated outdoor pool and garden. Our ‘inclusive’ package includes packed lunch, beer and wines, soft drinks and tea/ coffee daily from 10am – 9pm and afternoon cake from the buffet.
Sunday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the mid-morning train a glass of fizz and snacks set the holiday mood. On through France to Germany and our overnight hotel in Saarbrucken.
Monday A fine buffet breakfast before departing for Austria. Travelling through Germany we cross the Rhine at Karlsruhe and pass Stuttgart to Bavaria. Ahead we see the Alps and cross the beautiful Fern Pass with its turquoise lakes to reach our hotel the Bon Alpina. On arrival there will be a welcome drink with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday Today is spent at leisure in our resort of Igls. Why not take the cable car ride up the mountain or take a bus for the 10 minute ride to Innsbruck to further explore the city. Lunch and afternoon cake are included and don’t forget the inclusive drinks.
Wednesday A day of magnificent scenery with our tour to the glaciers of the Oetztal. We spend time in picturesque Oetz then drive to Solden where we take one of the highest roads in the Alps, driving under a glacier and climbing to the foot of the Mittelberg glacier where, at 9000 feet, skiing takes place all year round. This evening we enjoy a Farmers Buffet dinner.
Thursday Today we will visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck and see the famous, ornate 15th Century ‘Golden Roof’, designed as a royal box for the Emperor to sit in state above the square below. We can then explore the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum, housed within a Franciscan monastery and arcaded Renaissance courtyard. After enjoying a packed lunch. We visit Hall, former capital of the salt mining industry with its medieval town centre and famous Money Tower with the possibility of making your own coin.
Friday Today we will visit the newly re-opened Swarovski Crystal Worlds, which was redesigned in honour of the 120th anniversary of Swarovski’s founding in the Tyrol. Among the new attractions are five new Chambers of Wonder, each with a different theme. The displays in this museum are simply aweinspiring as we wander through a sparkling, highly imaginative world. In the afternoon, we will visit the smallest town in Austria, Rattenberg, where we can stroll through the picturesque streets and enjoy browsing for original souvenirs. We return for afternoon and cake.
Saturday We bid farewell to Igls and cross the Fern Pass before retracing the route of our outward journey through Bavaria and the Rhineland to reach our overnight hotel, the Mercure Saarbrucken, late afternoon.
Sunday A buffet breakfast before our drive through France to Calais for the afternoon train to Folkestone, returning to our home area and waiting taxis arriving early evening.
