A new tour for 2019, combining the best of two outstanding regions, the serenity of Lake Bled surrounded by majestic mountains and the stunning coastline of the Adriatic, based in the historic resort of Opatija.
The 4 star Park Hotel is located in the heart of Bled, just a minute’s walk from the lake itself. Facilities at the hotel include a large bar and relaxing lounge, a ‘wellness’ centre including sauna, gymnasium, massage, Jacuzzi and indoor swimming pool and an elegant restaurant. Each of the hotels bedrooms are en-suite with cable television, hair dryer, direct dial telephone and a balcony. A lift serves all floors.
The 4 star Agava is situated in the heart of Opatija within easy walking distance of the sea, beautiful gardens and a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. Formerly a private villa this historic building was tastefully converted to a hotel offering traditionally furnished air conditioned en-suite bedrooms, an ornately decorated lounge, bar and elegant restaurant. A lift serves all floors.
Wednesday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the mid morning train a glass of prosecco and snacks set the holiday mood. On through France to Reims and our city centre hotel, the 3 star Mercure.
Thursday We continue our journey through the Forest of Argonne, cross the River Rhine then travel along the northern edge of the Black Forest to reach our overnight hotel in the historic Bavarian city of Ulm, on the banks of the Danube.
Friday After passing the Bavarian capital, Munich, we enter Austria close to the city of Salzburg enjoying glorious alpine scenery as pass between some of Austria’s highest mountains. We drive through the Wurzen Tunnel to enter Slovenia and on to our lakeside hotel, arriving late afternoon.
Saturday A day at leisure to explore Bled, maybe take a boat cruise on the lake or simply familiarise yourself with this tranquil place.
Sunday A day tour of the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park with breathtaking scenery. We spend time in the internationally renowned year round resort of Kranska Gora which nestles beneath the jagged peaks of the Razor Mountain.
Monday Its time to head for the coast and another country, Croatia. Our drive includes a stop at the fabulous caves of Postojana, Europe’s largest’, where we marvel at the breathtaking size and incredible rock formations. We reach our 4 star holiday hotel in Opatija for dinner.
Tuesday A day at leisure in Opatija, discover the charm of this popular resort with its chic shops, bars, restaurants and promenade.
Wednesday Our excursion today is to one of the most spectacular natural phenomena of Croatia, the ‘Golden Island’ Krk, situated in the beautiful Kvarner Bay. We spend time in the idyllic little town of Krk before returning to Opatija mid-afternoon.
Thursday A scenic coastal drive takes us to the harbour town and resort of Pula. This ancient town has much to offer including the sixth largest Roman amphitheatre and a pretty 15th century square. Next we visit the pearl that is Rovinj with its colourful houses reflected in the crystal blue waters of the harbour. Our return is through the natural scenery of the Jandraska National Park.
Friday We leave the Adriatic and head north through Carinthia and the majestic mountains of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria’s highest, to Bavaria and return to our overnight hotel in the historic Ulm the 4 star Andreas Hofer.
Saturday We continue our journey through Bavaria and the Black Forest before crossing the River Rhine to France. Our overnight hotel is in the champagne city of Reims.
Sunday Homeward bound through France to Calais for the afternoon shuttle train back to England. We reach our home area late afternoon at the end of a memorable holiday.
